As a struggling noob myself - I would download the very free and very rad VLC player. It plays almost anything. I mean, I bet if I shoved a turd in my disc drive, it would at least try to play it. Well - I usually format my turd's codecs first tho....

download CCCP and Insurgent from here (http://www.cccp-project.net/). run insurgent first and uninstall any other codec packs it detects. then install CCCP and see if that does the trick.

a few things to remember: the file itself may be corrupted in the first place, does it work as it should on another computer? if you downloaded it, are there any previous user comments for the download? let us know.
