Members who might lose their Members

Should we eliminate the accounts of members here that signed up in year 2002 that have not posted anything. There are literally thousands. I paged through 200 pages of members and 99% of those were members that signed up in April 2002 and were last seen December 31 1969. I guess the real question is should we eliminate accounts after being inactive for a certain period of time?

It should be based on activity. If these members are active, even with no posts, they should NOT be deleted. As many of you well know, most people only sign up to get rid of the ads that clutter up the boards when one is not a member.


BTW, there are some really smart spammers out there. Make a bot that cruises all over the net looking for boards with weak sign up precautions, let it sign up accounts for years and years all over the place. Then one day set up a website with tons of pop ups and such and then activate all those millions of accounts with spam links to your set up site. A cool couple of million dollars racked up in no time!!!!

Thats a whole LOT of work, even for a team of people. Weeding thru a quarter mill people is no easy task and will take a few weeks

Don't delete them just disable it, then to re enable the account they should have to fill out one of those human checker things and maybe activate through their email again. This would ensure if someone actually does want to use the account some day they can. Its probably unlikely but whatever.

5 years is plenty of time for them to decide to use the account. If they dot use it by then they can reapply. I also think we should install a catcha verification to help cut down on spammers.
