I would contact the printer company's help desk or forum. I don't even want to know why you joined a p2p site to help troubleshoot your printer.

Now that's funky. Do you have the same default print settings on both computers? In XP, have you tried uninstalling the software suite, removing the device from device manager if still present, and installing the latest drivers from the manufacturers website? Also, if XP automatically identifies it and installs WHQL drivers, do you get the same behavior? What kind of interface cable are you using (USB, Parallel Port)? What program are you trying to print from? I think Rack's suggestion to ask on the manufacturer's forum is a good idea.

whadda you know... we have a printer help category... my mistake.... nevertheless, I don't see how we can formulate an answer with the information given ... seems like a driver problem to me .... old printer that works OK on Win98 and screws up on XP...

No offense... I just think the post had atleast some correlation with the forum category. Ofcourse we couldn't formulate a solution. That's why some of us are asking questions.

It wouldn't have looked so bad if it was a longer standing member posting this, but to join a p2p site and make your first post for printer help just strikes me as odd.

Sure the question is in the right place, but wouldn't it have made more sense to join a computer help community?

Sure...welcome to ZP. Go check your printer driver, since most hardware problems are driver related. Good luck.

Well, I suppose that's where we have a difference of opinion. If this is strictly a p2p site, then perhaps the mods should remove "Computing & Technology - A place to discuss technology, ask questions, and learn something". In fact, why not nuke all forum sections except for File Sharing?

So you think a file sharing forum is a great place to join, make your first post to get printer help, just because we have a section for general computing? LOL...okay, sure, whatever you say.

Actually... yes, yes I do. Must your first post be about file sharing or else?

I actually thought the question was a little odd and I jumped the gun on the sarcasm... my mistake... you don't see many printer questions here...

I think Rack gave the guy the correct advice right off the bat, and pointed out as an aside that there are several better places to get an answer to this question.

It's all good, Comandante. I just remember ZP being quite a diverse community back when I originally joined and hung out for a bit.

damn! and i just gave wapazoid an earful elsewhere for shitting on noobs. my bad, you're ok.

Q: would you all prefer a noob beg for invites on his first post, or politely ask a question to a problem he's having?

anyway...

so you mean to say that the printer prints out black pages on a win 98 machine, but gets all confused on win xp right? if that's the case, then get on the printer mfrs. website and download the latest winXP drivers for it. uninstall whatever driver you had, run cCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to remove any registry entries that may be left behind, and install the drivers you downloaded. the fact that it prints fine in 98 shows that the printer itself is ok.

device drivers vary greatly between win 98 and XP, make sure you're using the correct driver. if you're having more issues, make sure you come back with specifics as wapazoid mentions in post#5 above.

mentioning the words "erotic" and "truce" in the same post will always get you results. i'm surprised this hasn't been tried in the middle east...there's a nobel prize waiting for someone who tries this.
