I would have to go with PCLinuxOS Much more user friendly. Unbuntu has the better community support.

I've installed Sabayon (http://www.sabayonlinux.org/) recently which seemed like a nice setup, sadly it still seems like too early of a build as I ran into problem quite quickly. Not really all that noob friendly.

First i think you want to say Ubuntu Vs. Other (Gentoo etc.).
This question is to general. I think you have to ask yourself what do you want do in Linux, and how much time you want to spend to learn your operating system. Most of the linux distributions have some unike mark, quality, which provide the way of current distribution.
Ubuntu is typical desktop OS, but in Gentoo is OS that you must configure form the start, and your linux knowledge must be much bigger.

too narrow your decision, don't choose a source based distro if you aren't familiar with linux at all. (lunar, gentoo, sourcemage, etc.)

I've been using Ubuntu for quite some time and it my overall favorite. The main key in your decision should be help & support, which Ubuntu has plenty of. Ubuntu is very user friendly and very customizable.

From my experience Ubuntu is the best distro to start with. If you run into an issue or have a problem, there's always solutions to be found on the forums. There's also a lot of step by step tutorials that will show you how to get things done in linux.

For any first time Unix user i would say Ubuntu. different distro's have their pluses and minuses but Ubuntu is great to start with. It is very user friendly and the community extremely helpful.

Ubuntu is a good system to start out with, very easy and almost everything works out of the box, but then if you decide to "stay" with using a Linux system then recommend that you look on systems like Debian (the big daddy of linux systems ;-) ) mostly because it is more true to the open source philosophy.

I'm not sure about that. Ubuntu is Debian-based anyway. For a server, I'd say Debian every time but not for a desktop PC.

I'm not saying that Debian is easier.. if that's what you mean.. But Debian is a more FREE distribution.. ubuntu has alot of non-free stuff in it's kernel even their theme is not free, and firefox is also not 100& open source.. that is why Debian uses Iceweasel...
But you can try it out fore your self, just install the program vrms and then type vrms in your terminal..

Gentoo all the way. It has a steep learning curve, but by the time you can get it installed you know 1000% more than when you started haha.

Take it easy now, and the road will get rough later...or you can take the hard road now and coast in comfort later on =)
