Game "freezes" after installing

I have downloaded a game called Clannad. Since it isn't available in Europe or the US I downloaded the game with a "fan sub". Just after I install the game I get a message (not sure what it says since it's in japanese). I can still press play and get into the game. So far so good. The problem I have comes now. When I press a menu in the game (be it Options or New Game) the game stops. It doesn't exactly freeze because I can move the mouse around and the music is playing but nothing else works. I can't click anything or type anything and it is getting really frustrating. I have tryed reinstalling the game without any succes.

If anyone has had a similer problem with any game I would apreciate the help.

Sounds sort of like the issue I had with Bioshock and a couple other games before I bought a new video card. Now I'm not sure how well versed you are with terminology but I'm wondering if you don't have the proper shaders. This is purely speculation as I don't know where to get information on the game in English.

Edit: Ignore the above it doesn't apply, I didn't read your post carefully enough.

My other guess is that you need advanced fonts in your machine, as it is a Japanese game. Other then that my only guess would be that maybe Japanese XP has different features.

Thanks for the reply! Any idea where I can get the japanese fonts?

To the best of my knowledge you might be able to get them by going into your control panel -Regional and Language Options -Language -check the box with the appropriate box, not sure which it is. Or it might be the advanced tab, with the Japanese checked, I've never needed to use these so I'm not totally aware of what they are for.

Thank you for your help. Havn't got an XP cd at home so will have to wait till tomorrow to try it out since I need to install the files from the XP cd.

dont bother i have it on windows xp and erm i does the same as windows vista when im in menu like i click new game it freezes so no chance of Xp will not solve the problem.... i think its missi\ng some files in the torrent i dunno

Yes, and what I was suggesting is that his missing files were the language packs required for the interface since its a foreign game. So rather then just ignore all the posts maybe you should of read them. Its possible your right, but its not been shown that my suggestions were wrong.
