So I have arrived at the time where my XP is starting to get clunky. I want to re-install it but I am sick and tiredof Media center since I never use anything other than GOM or VLC for media, and so don't need media center. Also my pc only has 'recovery' discs which re-partition the harddrive and install all the crap that came with the PC, all HP's rubbish, plus Norton Anti-pile-off-shit!!!

So anyway I want to install a clean xp, and load all my own open source apps and drivers, and really control what processes get loaded etc...

So which version is best? And is it worth getting a copy with SP3 integrated?

Thanks!

P.S. NO I AM NOT GOING TO USE VISTA, ITS RUBBISH!!!

Without requested pirated (warez) software, I'd say your only XP options are Pro or Home. Requesting warez is against the forum rules. Perhaps you could try PM' your friends for such requests.

Heeeeyyyy hooooooo, who said anything about war.... what was it? warez? Yeees, no I don't want any of that stuff.

I'm wondering about XP. X!! P!!! *wink*

P.S. Thanks for the warning, and how can that be against the forum rules, but we can have a thread like open sign-ups?? One is "that which cannot be named!!!" and the other is direct links... Censorship is funny.

In my eXPerience, you can use nlite to make a really Tiny XP installation.
I once made a Version 5 times smaller than a normal install.
And since you are using your own licensed windows package, its already keyed and wga compliant.

Niiice! This looks promising man thanks. I can make installation disks of my existng windows copy, without all the crapola.... pretty much exactly what I wanted...

HOWEVER: Having some problems with nLite, since my PC came with XPMCE pre-installed and nLite is asking for original CDs...

So keep the suggestions coming...

Key/serial cracked and other modified versions of XP fit the classic term of warez. I don't make this shit up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warez

EDIT: However, after reading the rule (1) carefully, if you're not requesting a link to the warez, you're not doing anything wrong. My mistake and my apologies.

I recommend XPPROUNTD, if you can still find it. It's a very lite version and actually passes wga, which for all intents and purposes, makes it legal, right? I have tried and test this one and it works very well.

Hell, if ZP doesn't care, then why should I. I recommend XPPROUNTD, if you can still find it. It's lite and actually passes wga, which for all intents and purposes, makes it legal, right?

Uselesscrap....he wasn't asking anyone to provide a copy, and the post also didn't ask where he could get a copy. He was asking for an opinion on which version was best. Asking for an opinion on a topic isn't against the rules.

To the topic:

I'd recommend XP Pro (Corporate Edition) with Service Pack 2.

I can admit my mistake after reading the rules more carefully, but who made you tokoloshe's defense attorney? tokoloshe was quite able to speak for himself. So fuck off!

Aren't you the troll calling the kettle black? You troll threads just about every day, like you are a mod telling people where to go. I apologized for making a mistake, but you come along and try to put your extra 2 cent knife in my side. It seems to me you are the one picking a fight with me. You could have said nothing and this was done, but oh no, that wasn't good enough for the wannabe mod. You started this with me moron.

Next time PM me if you want a war.

Your way of apologizing is telling someone to fuck off for helping clerify a statement? Sorry if I offended you but I was trying to steer this back on topic. I am not looking for a fight nor am I wanting to be a mod. I just like to help out keeping this place enjoyable for everyone.

HELLLOOOO this is a torrent forum, I am a member of torrents sites, I am a software and media pirate!!!! Are we allowed to call a spade a spade here???!! LOL I KNOW where to get any fucking version of any M$ crap I could possibly want. As has been stated I am asking for opinions.

Now now children play nice or its off to bed without any supper. Usselscrap did apoligise to me in his/her very second post. Thanks for that, and clearing it up, since I was honestly confused about how I was breaking the rules. Thanks to everyone else too, for clearing it up.

Now....

I guess it is looking like XPPro... Corp editon, perhaps if I can find a good streamlined version....

I wpould really like to make my own with nLite, but I don't have original discs, my computer was bought in 2006 and came with a partitioned recovery drive that made 4DVDS, and all my windows stuff is on there, but I can't find the files needed by nlite to even start my streamlining... so I don't know if thats going to work...

Also tried Ubuntu, liked the look, but found the learning curve too much to bear right now....

Feather

With new OSes there is always a learning curve. PCLinuxOS imho has a much less of a learning curve and is the easiest to set up. If your willing to experiment a little give it a try.

I love you guys.....
To answer there are many Xp installs and most of them are only as different as personal opnion. I would say have a look and when you find one that appeals to you do some research on google to see if it is the best choice for you.

I use Vista lmao.....yeah thats right
My computer does not crash and it does not have any conflicts.

When it runs right, it runs right

If i were you I would stick with XP. Check out my sig. My pc could definitely handle vista but I just can't leave XP.

Some cons:

Takes up more space
A lot of useless stuff you don't need
Some programs and many games still don't perform well with it.

XP does everything Vista can do.

That's odd...

For trying to clarify a question, I get told to fuck off AND get get Neg Repped by Rack N Rail telling me to "Mind my own business"??

Ooooh-K.

Let me see....No, I will not fuck off. And No, I will NOT mind my own business, since clarifying the rules should be everyone's business. From UselessCrap's post, it seemed he was under the assumption that asking an opinion on what version of a software was best was against the rules.

This was already settled, but no no, you gotta be a shit disturber. I repped you for trying to start trouble, which you accomplished. You got what you deserved and as soon as I spread some more around, I will do it again.

I believe in this case "fuck off" is not something you go do. I believe it's simply a way of bidding buttwads farewell.

Dude...I don't know who peed in your corn flakes this morning, but maybe you have me confused with someone else. No, actually it wasn't settled. When I made my post, UC hadn't gone back and edited his posts yet. I wasn't being a shit disturber, and I wasn't trying to start trouble. That's not who I am, and that's not what I do. The ONLY thing I did was to say that asking an opinion about which version of a program is better was not against the rules.

And to be honest with you, if my clarification of forum rules really sticks in your craw so badly that you feel the need to neg rep me, then by all means do so. You certainly aren't hurting my feelings.

Here in Seattle every second person I meet does/has worked fro M$, and there is a unanimous opinion amongst them that Vista should not be used....

I have not bothered to ask why... It's like all new M$ stuff, they rush to reach deadlines, and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing so really the public end up being beta testers for the first year or so. Look at firefox 3, everyone is DYING for it to come out and the developers are just saying, it'll be ready when it is ready... And so we can expect a high quality product....
