The Graveyard's Ten-Minute Tale Of Death
By Chris Kohler

Tale of Tales, the Belgian indie developers currently hard at work on the very intriguing experimental game The Path, released a brief but very interesting little game today.

Called The Graveyard, it's a ten-minute scene that they describe as "more like an explorable painting than an actual game."

The gameplay, if you can call it that, is simple: You walk an old woman up a graveyard path to a bench in the distance. She sits. A scene takes place. When it's over, you lead her out of the graveyard.

The value here isn't the gameplay, it's the carefully crafted aesthetic experience and its (successful, in my case) attempt to draw an emotional response from the player.

You can download it for free (http://tale-of-tales.com/TheGraveyard/index.html) (PC and Mac) and try it for yourself if you like. When you're finished, my thoughts are below.

Rest of the story... (http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/03/the-graveyards.html)

What are YOUR thoughts, Helena?

I haven't done it yet. My husband is home during the weekend , so I was waiting for today.

I posted it elsewhere and am told that it does what it is intended to do.
I just thought it was interesting and might interest the gamers.

Have you tried it yet?

I gave it a shot. It had no emotional value for me. the song isn't what I consider sad. it's some weird acoustic sounding german song and it hardly sounded sad. just kinda creepy and weird

I busy myself well enough with full on games.

When I want creepy, I still have to finish Silent Hill 4, and begin Resident Evil 4, which I just bought for the Wii.

I'm with EM here, the song kills it. If it would of had a compelling song like Hurt song by Johny Cash then it would of had a much better effect.

I mean watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go) and compare it to the game. The game just doesn't manage to capture that.

Still haven't tried it. Just my luck. When DO I have time, I get this message-
