Hmmm, I've always wondered why Music Stores sell CD-R... I mean, duh - isn't it abvious why you're selling less?

why do they sell cdr? i think works something like a movie theatre does

they dont make money off of the movie, ticket, they barely cover that price (in this case cdr's), but their real money maker is the refreshments, they overprice them, thats where the money is made

bestbuy advertises lots of rebates to get you into the store and buy stuff, i think cheap cdr's are a way to reel in customers

but yeah, in some ways you're right, it is an oxy-morn type of thing

last month i bought "dusty in memphis" by dusty springfield and "trout mask replica" by captain beefheart. i already had em but my originals got broke when i knocked my cd stand over. Its not so easy to get good classic albums at a high bit rate. Electronica is easy to get online. just now im listening to peaches, william orbit and the orb.

HAHAHAHA....I see you've caught on to how theater chains stay alive....they really don't give a shit about you paying to get in.....cuz part of that gets kicked back to the film distro. Food/Drink is all theres. BTW I wouldn't advise you to buy any popcorn the next time you go see a movie...(if any of you ever do... :wings )

I never buy CD's.....last one I bought was the RahXephon set....come to think of it I only buy OST's I can't get off P2P.....or are of such poor quality that I'd pay to hear them in there full glory. Nothing from the states gets a dime outta my pocket.

Napster changed all that for me....soon as I logged on and got some of my favorites I was hooked....never to buy a mainstream CD again....

All I've bought is 2 Pac's new album "Better Dayz" and Snoop Dogg's "Paid the Cost to be the Bo$$". The only reason I bought Snoop is because it was $8.99. Other than that, I just download with my 56K :error !

I pick and choose which CDs to buy based on how much I like the artist. i.e. I might like a few Eminem songs, but I'd never buy his album. But local artists (well... local to me) such as Captain Tractor and the Arrogant Worms, and other non-mainstream artists like Weird Al are a few examples of bands who I would buy the albums of, because I like most of their music, not just one or two songs.

Its been qutie a while since I picked up one though, but with cash from relatives (xmas) I am buying a Captain Tractor CD...

i finally broke down & bought a couple cd's from amazon.com this week. (a compilation - 'spiritual beauty' & the residents - 'demons dance alone'). i think these were my first music cd purchases since about a week after i installed napster.

i admit that the main reason i bought them was because i couldn't find them download, but there is something nice about have the cover art/booklet and knowing i have a perfect copy. is it worth $15.00 each? - probably not. & i'm certainly not about to uninstall winmx & return my cable modem.

Not CD's but, whatever. LOL

Long story short, i've bought music from eBay in the last few months. And i've gotten it very cheap. I bought a CD that was priced at $39.99(American) for $19.99. It was an import version of an album that included bonus tracks and what not(2 CDs in all).

And of course I ripped the album for "backup" purposes hehehe.

Before I bought my first cd burner, I had purchased 600-700 CD's with my own money mind you (Im just turned 18) and with no real job, just odd jobs. I found out about cd burners and saved up money and bought one when it was like (busts out receipt...) 599.99 plus tax at Circuit City = 649.49. I have NEVER bought another cd since then and I basically earned my money back b/c back then no one had burners and I made money off of people wanting a custom cd. :santa I am proud to say that I have burned over 2000 CD's to this day.

I have no idea what the last CD i bought but I think it was some Rap cd but im not sure.

Nothing but mainstream north american garbage music in my city.

High demand for JLo, nelly, all those fag rappers for all the native people in the city (all the same taste of music.)

So, I gotta download all my techno, or get a rare CD from Saskatoon (got Rave-o-lution 1 half a year ago. 30 bucks, but worth it)

I wanna live in europe.
Techno lover's paradise.

Ah yes....when CD burners just came out
We got a 2X burner that took 30 mins to record a CD.
Cost - 300$.

Damn though, Hi demand. but 56k kinda crushed that dream.

ps: i buy games. i bought SOf 2 (it rules)

I always buy cds. I have bought probably 30cds so far this year for just 2003. I have not been buring for a long time. I am buying now to support the artist. I am starting to realize that it is wrong to burn if you like the whole cd. but if I like just a couple songs from various artists that is when I burn. Which is like once every two months.

Just bought the new Ministry CD Animositisomina prior to seeing them last night on their Fournika Tour. If Ministry comes any where near, go see them. My ears are still ringing--Psalm 69, Stigmata, Thieves, Crumbs, they went an hour and half non-stop, no bullshit between songs, just their trademark wall of sound. Sinister shit...

This is the only time I usually by a CD, just before I go see someone I really like. Last store bought CD was DJ Shadow before his show last December. Or I buy their CD at the show, like the Superdrag CD I bought at their show last October. But my CD purchases have declined from something like 5-10 a month to 5 or 10 a year...I made no CD purchases between Superdrag and DJ shadow, and only one (Sasha Airdrawndagger) since Shadow's.

Fuck the RIAA and the corporate music machine. Support live music and independant artists whenever possible.

I saw Ministry, Sepultura, & Helmet years ago in an indoor soccer arena. Heaviest, loudest show I've ever seen (of which there are many contenders). I sat in the bleachers tripped out watching the entire soccer 'field' become one big pit to the wall of sinister sound. Intense.

I just received (3) Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan cd's via an Ebay transaction. I got a good deal, not his best work, but he is still my favorite vocalist. I doubt he has much of anything owned by the RIAA. I'm sure not many people in the aforementioned mosh pit have heard of him.

Its ok. its got some really good moments, (Date with the night, Pin, Y-Control, Tick, Maps, Modern Romance) but some of the other songs are filler type. (no no no, black tongue)
It had enough good on it to make me buy it, and the fillers may grow on you but its a toss up album really.

If you want something really good (in that garage genre), with tons of energy, but no filler, I recommend the Libertines. Took a few listens for me to really absorb it.

Since about summer of 1999 I have purchased 1 CD. It was The Beta Band's self-tiled CD. That was Sometime in 2000.

Before Napster I used to buy atleast 10 CDs a month.

Now it's just spindles of 50 or 100 blanks. And I leave all my music in mp3 format. 1 album per CD just seems so inefficient now.
I'm In the process of replacing all my cd player with mp3 players. My DVD player already plays them. Now I just need an mp3 discman and mp3 boombox. As for the car stereo, I'll just use the discman with a cassette adapter. Good stereos just seem to get stolen too easy in this town.

I've never bought a CD in my life. I've had other people buy them for me ( birthday, Christmas ), but I have never bought one with my money.

I couldn't find a good copy of "Soft" by Second Coming on a P2P, so I bought a copy of the cd from someone at Amazon.com for less than a dollar. Of course, with shipping it came to more, maybe $4.00 total. I thought that was a reasonable price. And, while Mercury Records is an RIAA member, I don't believe they made any money from this sale. At least I hope they did not.

the only cds bought here are imports from overseas independant labels ( serpent house etc...) usually, these songs aren't easily found at a high eneough bitrate over p2p, they just arent popular eneough. its been maybe two years since i bought a new cd ( that want blank). if all cd prices drop to seven bucks or so, well then maybe ill find a little more money in my budget, you know?

My last purchase was "Sigur 1/Sigur 9 (CD & DVD)". It has 4 Sigur Ros audio tracks, which are good, but not my favorites by them. The reason I bought it though was the included DVD, which has 3 high quality videos. (the first of which is beautiful, though it's hard to tell whether you should be sad or happy). Another bonus was the $8.98 price tag.

I'm sure I could have eventually found all these files somewhere for free, but I don't mind spending some money on music. I guess I felt like rewarding a good band that seems to be trying to give me my money's worth at the record store.

album cover attached...

edit: just discovered that Sigur Ros is not affiliated with the RIAA. a nice bonus for my $$.

Its kind of like thinking of that movie you saw last week. The name faded out as quickly as money dwindled from your bank account from that movie going experience.
The last cd i bought was a greatest hits cd of Phil collins, cause i love all his work and never owned one cd from him. So i bought it and gave it to my wife, in later i gave it to a few uploaders on mirc.. The joy of giving, and giving, and giving some more.
Save the economy, and do away with plastic purchases.

I was new to the uploading expierence and my pc had rio and it allowed me 50 free frips, so i ripped my duran duran, and depeche mode in 320kbs. And it wasnt the brightest thing cause my modem was a 56k. So now i got new pc, dsl, i transfered the drive that held my mp3s to my new pc. So now im able to share without people disconnecting from me cause it took them so long. Audiogalaxy satelite was the most i ever shared, i left that thing on night and day. GOt spam a bit.
My favorite song by phil collins was Just another day in paradise.

I just bought, Final Fantasy - Pray ... For you final fantasy fans, it is the best final fantasy music cd, next to the piano collections. I just bought final fantasy 9, the game, and love the piano music. Great game.

Time is speeding up so fast, Final fantasy 9 came out in 2000, and I just found the time this summer to play it.

Final Fanasy - Pray cd was warped, so I had to copy the audio tracks over to a cd-r to play the disc. never had that happen before.

Now there is some music I wouldn't mind downloading. I love most of the FF compositions. There are some amazing ones in X. I currently own 1-10 with the exception of 2 (I have the original NES) But i am looking to get FF Origins soon. IX was a great game, though I think I preferred VII, VIII, & X over it. The cinemas were badass. I just finished X about a month ago. Put about 124 hours into it. I think I finished IX with about 84 hours or so. Fun stuff.

In the past 2 years or so, I've only purchased a few used CDs. But the stuff I really want I can't find new OR used, so it's a moot point.

Yes, we think that music will be around for a long time, in reality has a short shelf life. Naptster was best for finding those hard to find lost material.

Some of the FF music cd's are not a good buy. On a sad note, Squaresoft is no longer, they merged with another company enix after sony gave square 80 million to keep them operating.

If you look at how many titles square released over the 1990's, with each game taking 40+ hours, where is the time to play this stuff?

If you look at the American market 30% and the international market 70%, there is about 2x times more great material that thanks to technology we have access to. This new access will depress sales of the hollywood machine.

I still listen to rock and roll, but thanks to globalization, I have other choices, and those choices are depressing sales for the machine.

I do not own a psx2, so I have not tried the newer games, FF7 was the best story and amazing when it first came out, never played FF8, just this year played FF9, the best graphics of all of the FF series, great ending... but after FF7, some repetition in the game. It does have many references to other square games, sort of a tribute. :)
