When using peerguardian, I seem to get a lot slower download speeds...
Anyone have any tips on how to limit how much it slows anything down?

Please direct your questions about peerguardian to the proper forum.
The people there will be better suited to help you.

Otherwise you will get idiot remarks like the one above.

yea and the best solution too.
Peer guardian isn't really the problem it's the block list being used. If you use an ipfilter.dat in Utorrent or the safepeer plugin for azureus it will show same behavior. I think the slow down has a lot to do with the speed of your internet because most people aren't noticing a speed difference. If I use a level 1 blocklist which is the correct one for just P2P my downloads are slowed down to 25% of what my connection is capable of sp I choose not to use a blocklist

I would guess you have DHT and/or Peer Exchange enabled in your client inwhich case you will experience slow downs because its blocking most of your peer traffic.
