Has anyone done this?

I have posted on the forums of private trackers I use (awaiting replies) and wondered whether it would be possible to either simply access a private tracker in university accomodation (e.g. Halls of Residence or college accomodation) given that the internet will be a LAN? Just if two people use the same tracker in said accomodation would that not cause problems regarding IP issues?

I don't wish to lose my accounts and I'll be happy using an internet cafe just to log into the private trackers to prevent my accounts from being pruned.

For what it's worth I'll be in England for university.

Use a VPN. Buy relaaks and set your ul/dl to %85 capability that you can, so that they don't get wind of it.

I've not heard of this method. Relaaks? Technology has left me behind ages ago I'm afraid. Have thought of using torrent freedom whilst I'm at university. Because the university that's given me an unconditional offer, is collegiate like Oxford and Cambridge, I'm trying to make sure that I don't come undone with issues over IP with the trackers and bandwidth with the University. :icon_pira

Apparently I have to live in College in my first year, and it's something I'd like to experience, but I'd rather not lose my accounts via pruning.

Don't universitys still have packetshapers? i know Manchester met does there was a big deal about it last year or something.
They would be able to see the bandwith you are using? and if it's what they deem to be inappropriate they could just cut you off.

Although i'm intrested in this question to cause i'm off to uni next year.

Think it depends on the university. It looks like I will be at Durham since LSE is taking forever to reply. Thought if I keep it around 30kB/s then perhaps they won't notice even if I use Torrent Freedom as well?

Torrent Freedom isn't that cheap.

1 month of TorrentFreedom Service - $17 - (recurring)
1 month of TorrentFreedom Service - $17 - (one-off)
3 months of TorrentFreedom Service - $47 - (recurring)
3 months of TorrentFreedom Service - $47 - (one-off)

I'm here at a University as well and I have tried VPN. Sadly they have vpn blocked. I have heard of a few colleges around my area that are doing this.

It isn't but it might be worth it depending on how much bandwidth I could get away with, assuming I do, of course. I've been working full time for just over a year between college (16-18 year olds usually) and university so I'm not hard up. Do you know anyone who has used this service at a university successfully?

I've looked at accomodation options for my second and third year though. I HAVE to live in College while at univeristy - it's a culture thing. I might be panicking a little bit too much because I thought I couldn't do anything when I was at the University of London but I ripped internet radio stations freely (albeit at Halls of Residence).

Change the ports it uses. What I did for my friend was to open up ports 6891-6900, because MSN messenger used them (for sending files, but most people don't do that) and it was fine!:icon_thum That said we got a cheap VPN seedbox just transferred the files from it. No hassle then as you can use the files you want to buff and still pull over the files you really want.
