WOW! Look at this! Right out of the pages of Watchmen!

The four cast members in bold are the ones I really think are SPOT ON! Some of the others are newer peeps to me so I can't call it. I know Zack Snyder will work has magic with this one. He cant miss!

If youre one of the people who dismiss comics as being only for kids then you will be missing out on one great book. Im not realy into super hero's but this story seems to really tell what people would do if they had super powers. Pick it up for youself

I wonder how long this movie will be. I hope its long enough to bring up all the sub plots and do this story justice. Eveyone who has been a fan of the 12 issue series has been waiting sooooo long it has to be done right. Zack, im so glad the picked Zack. The only other person I would want to do it would be Peter Jackson. These two guys seem to have mastered the art of CGI film making. All others just seem plastic (hulk).

Terry Gilliam quit that project 20 years ago because "Reducing [the story] to a two or two-and-a-half hour film [...] seemed to me to take away the essence of what Watchmen is about". But what does Gilliam know, the director of 300 will probably pull it off just fine.

They'll just buttfuck it until it's just a mediocre action film, like they did with V...

I really wonder how this comic would have turned out if Moore had been allowed to use the Charlton characters in this comic... Would Captain Atom be as cool as Dr. Manhattan? Or would Vic Sage have been able to drive the story like Rorschach?

Obviously it would have been cool for Nite Owl to have been the Blue Beetle though...

I wouldnt like to see those characters replaced as it all works well in the universe Moore constructed. IMO, Rorschach is one of the best characters ever. When he tells the prisoners how it is will be one of the best scenes of any comic movie

I don't think the story would have been able to be told in the manner it was if he had used those characters, but the changes would have been fascinating. Rorschach and the Question are completely different. Kovacs is insane, and Sage is a journalist. Captain Atom has atomic powers, but is not able to transform things like Manhattan...

Of course Sage and Kord are now dead (okay, Kord is alive for the time being, but he will be dead again soon) and Atom is now Monarch again (who would have guessed that back in 1991 when the end of Armageddon 2001 leaked and they edged in Hawk?). Maybe DC should have just allowed him to fuck them up? They have done a pretty good job of doing that over the past 25 years.

Wow wee wow wee wow!

The graphic novel has been online for along time. Pick it up TODAY! You must read this before you see it. There is no way they will be able to cram that whole story into a movie so read it before the surprises are spoiled!

Seeing the part where Dr. Manhattan builds his home on mars gives me goose bumps every time! I never imagined how this could be done, before CGI of course. Now it looks like the translation to the big screen is spot on!

I wish I could have been at the Dark Knight opening night showing. I beet the geeks went crazy when they showed this clip.

If you watch the portrayal of The Question in the Justice League International cartoons you get a taste of how that character could have been shaped in that direction. Kord for his part, sans the Justice League laugh-track years, was Owlman. I can even see them working the Captain Atom angle pretty easy. Eve Eden? Not so much.

What I don't see is how D.C comics stays viable. Batman, sometimes Superman and at various times the Justice League/Suicide Squad. 3 titles work picking up. I think the current problem is that their roster of writers grew up only watching professional wrestling and have a limited ability to come up with a compelling story.

DC still publishes Vertigo comics which has turned into a movie house also. While Hellblazer didn't set the world on fire, it should have its a great series, DC is the corner stone of comics. I don't read comics much but I still Like Vertigo titles. Horror has always been my forte. Ive been a fan of Alan Moore every since I read his turn in Swamp Thing. He turned comics on its edge with that series. I picked up Watchmen because of his name alone and was not disappointed. I've read it like 4 or 5 times. Amazing is all I can say. The movie looks really flashy which is not in my taste but its sure to please today's audiences. As long as the story survives intact I'll be happy. Judging from the trailer it looks like panels right out of the comic with amazing CGI. Nothing wrong with that. I can't wait!

I watched the trailer like 6 times... I love the little details, like the smiley face on the Comedian's lapel flashing into the light as he is thrown through the window. The Comedian and Rorschach are fucking perfect, period.

I have my doubts about the story translated to anything less than 4 hours, but the look is dead-on beautiful.

What about those stills of Dr. Manhattan floating through the Army base? I wonder how long they spend in this time frame? One thing about comics, they can be shoe horned into a movie much better than a novel. Comics already being a visual medium helps. A lot of the story can be conveyed outside of the text. So far its looking spot on.

Okay this news is just NUTS! Reports have been circulating that Fox is trying to make sure the movie "The Watchmen" is never released! WTF!

Story: Hollywoodinsider (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/08/watchmen.html?iid=top25-20080820-The+%27Watchmen%27+war%3A+Fanboys+furious+with+Fox )

The 'Watchmen' war: Fanboys furious with Fox

Twentieth Century Fox’s war with Warner Bros. over rights to Watchmen has sparked fan outrage across the Web following a published report that Fox is seeking to prevent Zack Snyder’s $100 million-plus comic book adaptation from ever being released, a report that most reasonable people and several informed sources believe just isn’t accurate. Those familiar with the situation tell EW.com that despite the legal mess over rights, Fox isn't actually interested in suppressing Snyder’s film — they just want affirmation of ownership and/or restitution, and there are many scenarios by which Fox could get paid, including a cash settlement or distribution rights to the film. Either way, look for Watchmen to be released, as scheduled, on March 6, 2009.

Caught in the crossfire of murky legal vollies and overheated online venting: some of Fox's biggest upcoming films, including a remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reeves, and 2009's other hotly anticipated superhero flick, Fox’s own X-Men Origins: Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman and slated for a May 1, 2009 release. In the wake of a report in Tuesday's Daily Variety asserting that “Fox … would rather see [Watchmen] killed instead of collecting a percentage at the box office,” comic books fans hit the boards at EW.com and deadlinehollywood.com vowing to punish Fox for denying them the chance to see Snyder’s long-awaited movie by boycotting various Fox films. Over at comics2film.com, Watchmen fans also blustered about a ban and even floated the idea of damaging Wolverine in particular via piracy — presumably, by making a crappy cam recording of the film and posting it somewhere on the Internet for illegal download.

It’s hard to imagine a boycott or a digital pirate attack could significantly skewer Wolverine’s prospective box office, even if they did actually come to pass. Fanboys are pretty amped for Jackman’s franchise bid — the trailer Fox showed at Comic-Con killed — and a vast majority of geeks probably shy away from doing anything that will rile up a small army of Fox lawyers armed with court orders. Still, Fox is counting on those fanboys' dollars to make Wolverine profitable, and alienating them risks creating bad PR. Should this boycott blather intensify throughout the fall, it will no doubt put Jackman in the unenviable position of fielding questions about the controversy during the tubthumping to come for his big Oscar-baiting epic, Australia, also a Fox production. (Needless to say, such drama would also create more awareness for Watchmen.)

Asked for a response to the fan uproar, a Fox spokesman said in a statement: “Of course we are concerned about the fans; however, any disappointment from the core fans should not be directed toward Fox. What we are doing is seeking to enforce our distribution rights to Watchmen. Legal copyright ownership should not just be swept under the rug and ignored.”

One question many observers have had about this situation is the timing of the lawsuit. Fox filed its complaint back in February — just as Snyder was wrapping production on Watchmen. The assumption many are making is that Fox stood by and did nothing as Warner Bros. actively and publicly developed and produced a movie it had no right to make, and then, at a maximum moment of leverage, sandbagged its rival with a lawsuit. And yet, according to a Fox source, studio lawyers contacted Warner Bros. about the distribution rights issue several times prior to the start of production but were rebuffed.

All of this would seem to suggest that Warner Bros. either massively screwed up or is pretty darn certain that Fox is grossly mistaken. In a statement issued to the press on Tuesday, a Warner Bros. spokesman said: “We respectfully disagree with Fox's position and do not believe they have any rights in and to this project." But the studio also made the claim that the judge in the case, Judge Gary Allen Fees, "did not opine at all on the merits, other than to conclude that Fox satisfied the pleading requirements.” This is technically true. But the tenor of Fees’ edict does sound rather leading. For example: "It is particularly noteworthy that nothing on the face of the complaint or the documents supplied to the Court establishes that [Watchmen producer Larry] Gordon, the claimed source of Warner Brothers' interest in Watchmen, ever acquired any rights in Watchmen."

At the very least, the judge’s order seems to put Warner Bros. and Gordon in the position of producing proof that clearly shows that Fox is wrong, or confuses the situation so much that the judge will have no choice but to throw them into a slime pit and let them slug this thing out. (If you want to examine the legalese yourself, check it out here.) Regardless, the two most likely outcomes are: 1. Warner Bros. wins. 2. Warner Bros. offers Fox a big fat settlement and Fox takes it. They could certainly use the bump after a weak summer season in which none of its films crossed the $100 million threshold.

Whats up people? No one excited about this movie here? I am about to bust a hemorrhoid just thinking about it! I am going Friday or Saturday. If they have a midnight showing Thursday I am going to that.

Ive been waiting on this for about 18 years when I first read it. Its an amazing story even for a super hero book. If you guys have not downloaded the MOTION COMIC from bittorrent you are missing out. Its almost word for word from the mini series and the animation was pulled right out of the comic in an amazing way. I want more of these and can't wait to see books like the Sandman turned into motion comics. Download the motion comics but if you have never read the series wait till after the movie to do so. It will spoil the surprises to come. Thats the only real bummer about already knowing the story. Knowing all the plot twists spoils it a bit. Anyways....

I am in total GEEK mode! If I could dress up as Rorschach I would!

EDIT: I am afraid many will go in expecting Spiderman or Xman type comic book antics and theyre not gonna find that in Watchmen. Watchmen tackles some issues of what really would happen if there were groups of people who were leagues beyond regualr humans and how they would handle that power. Its not always pretty and I am glad they went with an R rated movie. Don't expect Fantastic Four when you go see it and don't take the kids! This is not the "fell good" movie of the summer!!!!

Also, I just heard they changed the ENDING! I put a lot of trust in ZACH so I hope the change in minor. Can't wait!

It probably wont be good, if you been hyped about it since the comic days, it wont live up to your expectations. Just go see it to enjoy it. Im pretty pleased that it waited this long to show daylight. Never know how terrible it would of been in the 80's or nineties with CGI and the limited ability to capture it in its greatness.

Then again, Capcom thinks it will be great. The RESIDENT EVIL 5 game is out on the 13th in stores.. OF course if you downloaded the Japan version of BIOHAZARD5.. You can go a head and play it and may not make it to the theater.. The movie will bust over 150 million by Sunday evening.

There is no way this movie could have been made before now. Its way to complictaed in the visual department. When you see what the Doc can do you will undertsand why I say that. I don't see how the movie can not be great and at almosy 3 hours long it seems they tried to get most of it in there.

Early reviews are smashing but geeks will always fanboy it. I am concerned it will be too serious for many who expect Ironman or a regualr super hero movie. This should be completely different and take the comic movies in a brand new direction...the way it did in comic books.

wingnut2600
March 4th, 2009, 11:07 PM
I will be seeing this on Saturday, more than likely. I am excited, but I doubt it will capture the story properly. I am going for the look and feel.

I remember reading this in a library in 86 or 87. God, I loved that my public library had trades and comics. I used to check out scads of comics and read them voraciously. Now I just have an unread queue of about 60-70 issues (figuring I buy about 30-35 a month, that isn't really as bad as it sounds).

I don't think I have read it again. I have a copy I bought used somewhere about 8 years agao, but I only browsed it a bit. I may have to check out the "motion comics." The only problem with something like that is the fact that I read like 15 times faster than anything that is reading the text; it always seems to be dragging.

Caught the noon show myself, wow...did you see all that cock??? Lots of cock for the cock lovers! Lots of sexy sex too but if you love cock you will love this movie!

I still think that people who love Spiderman/Xmen movies may be let down a bit. Its not all action and the story is very heavy. There is not action for the sake of having lots of action. The action has to make sense in the context to the story. When there is action its way more violent than any comic movie I have ever seen though. The audience was actually groaning at some of the fight scenes like when a persons bone pops out of their arm or some other very graphic violent act. These guys do not play around with the bad guys...they FUCK em up!

This movie on the big screen with 20 speaker surround sound is amazing! The movie is very close to the comic and it would be very hard to make it much more accurate IMO. Its long as hell and the first half sort of drags because its setting up all the background we need to know for the second (ass kicking) half. Its a great movie I must say and I will watch it again. I won't say best movie of the year or anything like that but tis great in its own respect.

I would agree. A cam version would be foolish to watch because it is gonna spoil the film. If you waited this long and are not willing to go to the theater at least wait for a DVD or better version. I looked at the cam picks and it looks HORRIBLE! Like watching a 1970's TV show. BLUH!
