PC World - UK plan would require ISPs to monitor Internet activity and cut off service to copyright violators.

I just heard this on the evening news tonight and was amazed. About every 12 months yet another "Government department" steps into the limelight to announce the latest crackdown on so-called "internet fraudsters".

Understandably, following the legal dog fight that was the Napster trial, many people seem to think that this is an enforcable solution. Sadly, I doubt that.

If, for instance, it was possible to track down every single P2P downloader, be they at home on their PC, in a library or internet cafe, or even wifi-ing their way through life, surely it would take very little additional software tweaking to find each and every downloading paedophile on the planet.

Whilst it makes the politicians look good to wave their sticks in the air and appear to be on the hunt, the reality must surely be very, very different.

Just a personal opinion - any comments?

No matter what, it is stupid for any government to act on behalf of few (copyright owners) to cut people off the Internet. Unless, those people are serious criminals (making huge profit off pirating) which most people are not!!!
