I'm about ready to come over to the other side...
Usenet and P2P both have their Pros and Cons, but through it all thick and thin I have still stuck with Usenet, then if I couldn't find something on Usenet I'd search all the free rapidshare downloads out there, and have stayed far away from P2P, and torrents simply because every time I try to get something the downloads suck.
But in all honesty as long as P2P and torrents keep drudging on, there certainly must be either some killer P2P apps that have great speeds, or there must be some great torrent sites, or forums to get things from.
For me I mainly use Usenet and P2P to download apps, games and movies, not music, so I typically download BIG files, especially when I download DVDs.
Where the HECK are the KILLER P2P apps, or torrent sites/forums?
THANKS

Sorry, apparently you know absolutely nothing about usenet! Usenet maxes out your connection from the time you start to the time you finish!
Not even private BT sites can match it's speed! So using utorrent or azerus is NOT going to be faster than newsgroups. Period. They are only clients that connect to a BT network and if the networks is not as fast, what makes you think those clients will be faster?
That makes absolutely no sense!

Sorry to say meyou, but I can regulary max out my 20meg connection using a few select torrent sites.
But we've been here before (a couple times I think!) so I'm not going to push the point any further than that.
Cheers.

At what fucking point did I say they're faster? I said if he wants to try them out, those are the two clients to try. if he doesn't like them, then stick with usenet? Don't put words in my mouth yo. I don't appreciate it.
btw, bittorrent CAN be as fast as usenet. but not regularly as fast. so it depends on what features you're looking for.

MOST torrents are not going to max out at the beginning of a file and go all the way through to the end. Sorry, that is just the way it is! It is a difference in the way bit torrent and newsgroups deliver a file.
And with torrents, it DEPENDS ON THE SEEDERS, if you have a lot of seeders you can get great speeds, if you don't....you cannot. Just the way bit torrent is set up, that is a fact!
I doubt seriously that you can max out your torrent at the beginning and have it go all the way to the end like newsgroups do all the time. It all depends on the seeds a torrent has, with newsgroups it does NOT.
If you like your connection, fine. But please don't give me some bullshit about how you think torrents is going to be as fast newsgroups, that ain't gonna fly!
At what fucking point did I say they're faster? I said if he wants to try them out, those are the two clients to try. if he doesn't like them, then stick with usenet? Don't put words in my mouth yo. I don't appreciate it.

You said and I quote....."utorrent.com
problem solved
if you don't like it, try azureus, don't like that, stick with usenet"
Now you came off as though they were all equal! So don't give me bullshit about putting words in your mouth!
I was not doing that!
They are not equal. They are not even the same ways of delivering a file! And yes, bit torrent can reach fast speeds...IF IT HAS THE SEEDS, but NOT from start to finish!
It all is in the way a torrent is delivered with seeds versus newsgroups that deliver a file a different way.
And to answer the original posters question.....Bit Torrent can be fast, but not as fast as newsgroups all the time. And as far as other P2P programs as fast as newsgroups?...well...if you get on a top site with FTP and have a super fast connection......but good luck getting in with THAT crowd!

No I didn't. Not here, anyway. That's thanks to Hunter, if he ever shows up here again.
And no alias, I'm me, been me since 1998. (well, I was me even before that, but carpefile since 98)

Ok, back on topic.
Some private sites that will max out your connection would be sct, tl, and ftn. For DVDr I use TheDvdClub. The speeds aren't the greatest, but the selection makes up for it IMO, since its entirely DVDr. These sites (other then TDC) either have a very high number of seeders, or plenty of people seeding from very fast lines. I have rarely dl'd anything from these sites and not maxed out my line. Only very old/unpopular releases get poor speeds after being up for long enough, due to lack of interest. People wont continue to seed if no one is grabbing it.
If you need some more advice, or help finding what you seek, feel free to drop me a PM, consider this my permission :)
Also, check out FileSharingTalk, they have a great section with reviews of torrent sites, including pre times, content, speeds, and rarity (I don't care about rarity, but if its extreamly rare, don't expect an invite easily, thats all)

I understand this, I guess I forgot to say WHO has the good tracker and seeds, because I'm certainly not finding it, unless I want to make a career out of this...

What does fast mean? Even if Usenet goes at 1MB/sec while a torrent limps along at 500K, something like a movie shows up on a good private tracker 6 hours or so before it appears on Usenet, so torrent wins.
And everyone in the know realizes that carpefile= SharePro, the Palestinian from Beverly Hills.

Yeah there sure is heaps out there, I guess I'll just have to try them one by one as they come along.
But are there any top sites that really stand out?
Man there are so many trackers out there I can't even imagine how many, thousands, I'd imagine, but would there be a TOP 10 by chance?
THANKS GUYS!

Sorry I meant as fast as your connection download speeds will go. I have an 8MB line, so I download off of Usenet at 950K
