Ok i am thinking of getting either a xbox-360 or a ps3, now i have played ont he xbox before, but i own a ps2 and i really found the controls really wierd on the xbox but i liked them.

if you own either or even both, please could you post which one and why?

i want to come to a conclusion :)

sorry if there is a thread like this, i did check and i couldnt find anything.

Look at the exclusive titles for each and use that as your decision. Both are pricey and have known issues, so for me it would come down to exclusives.

January 11th, 2008, 12:40 PM
yea, xbox has alot of exclusive games such as gears of war and halo 3. but you have ot pay to go wireless, where as the ps3 has free internet, which is great iwoudl say

the xbox all the way, however it does have it's problems. Out of my 2 that I own, 1 broke about 6 months into it's life. Microsoft fixed it in about 14 days which was nice...

Multimedia features and Blu-Ray alone make thje ps3 worth picking up. When it comes to the games most major titles are coming out on both consoles.

PS3 is a better investment. It has many more features, and it's more bang for your buck. Then again, 360 has a bit more games. it's up to you though.

The Ps3 runs Linux out of the box... no hacking required. You can change the HDD by yourself as well.

Do you need a separate HD screen? Well... you just need a TV of some sort. HD is higher resolution and prettier, but the games are going to play the same HD or not.

BTW, both have pros and cons:

360
pro: lots of games, rabid fanbase, many exclusives
cons: Live service costs cash, unreliability (many die... search for red ring of death") and no wifi included

PS3:
pro: excellent media features, awesome gaming network, blu ray, much more reliable than 360, PSP interoperability
cons: fewer games

I have a Ps3, and I like it quite a bit. A XBOX 360 isn't any better or worse though.

I have a PC, so I can play the games I would play on a 360 already. Saves me money. I could have just as easily bought the 360 instead of a PS3 though... in fact, I still may.

I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but I am very pleased with my PS3. I have a 60GB version and it is awesome for PS2 games as well as having more input methods than the newer versions (the 40 and 80 GB). Find that one and buy it.

Both

Xbox gets a nod for better games and XBox Live, despite not being free is a more mature platform.

Playstation 3 for features and Blu-Ray support, also PSP interaction is excellent. You can use the PSP as a flash drive and play movies you've downloaded over the internet and play directly on your TV without burning a DVD. Plus being able to play PSP games full screen on a 42" TV is a pretty damned cool feature too.

even though i hate both (xbox=poorman's PC, ps3 no games), i still think the xbox is the better choice between the 2. if you think that you might like the multimedia features of the ps3, then go for that. IMO, a game system should be about the games. i only see 2 after a whole year for the ps3 that cant be played on the xbox or PC. ratchet and clank, and uncharted. TWO WHOLE GAMES in a whole year. not what i consider a good gaming platform.

i really like that advertisment of heavenly sword, it looked amazing, i was going ot get it as soon as i saw that, but then i saw gears of war and halo 3 coming out.

whati was talking abuot it being hacked, is can you play downloaded games on the ps3 like you can do with the xbox after you modded it?

Well for one thing with Xbox360 you can play backup games, while its not possible with PS3 for now. But then you will have to forget about all fun playing with your buddies because you can't use Live any more.
I think the best is to own both of them. I do own both and now I am saving money for Wii.
(Heard about queen Elisabeth is hooked on it too:icon_boun )

The 360 hardware problems have been taken care of, all the ones sold today should be fine. MS also upped the standard warranty to 3 years and you can get it extended for 40 bucks which is not a bad deal. As long as you keep it in a well ventilated place and blow out the dust once and a while it will be fine.

The cost of live is exaggerated here it only costs about 6 bucks a month and is far superior to Sony crappy free service. It is not required if you don't want to play games online. And if you are going to do something like install a mod chip then it is pointless because your console will be banned regardless of which one you choose.

The 360 has way more games for it now than the PS3 including exclusives and right not many of the multi platform games look better on the 360.

If you have a HDTV and want a blue ray player more than a game console then the PS3 would be ideal. But if you want to play games the 360 has way more better games out now, and you should compare the exclusive games of the two consoles.

I own a 360 and I like it alot. I was a big PS2 supporter but I don't like Sony has done things in this generation. If you do plan on getting a PS3 you should wait a bit because Sony will likely drop the price or change what they are bundling soon because it is still not selling that well.

Games on the xbox 360 that warrant it as a buy,

Halo 3
Eternal Sonata
Blue Dragon
Street Fighter 2 remake

Those on PS3

Ratchet and Clank

Games slated to come out that make people buy a ps3
Metal Gear solid
Final Fantasy
Little Big Planet
Grand Tourismo

In terms of games I would go for a Xbox 360 only because I would really like to play Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon. Other then those two titles tho there isn't much difference between the two for me. Ive never really gotten into final fantasy, halo, or metal gear I just put them in because most people like them.

As for features Ps3 is much more open to different formats and allows you to run Linux which if you are familiar with it is a nice plus. But unless something has changed they gimped Linux in terms of what it can access from the system.

They're now giving away six Blu-ray movies with the purchase of a PS3. Spiderman and your choice of 5 others. This has improved sales but they are still clearly in third place in console sales simply because of hefty price tag.

For me the price is justified given the value of its combined components but obviously for most people the price is still too high.

Xbox 360 also has BioShock and Mass Effect. Both AMAZING games.....both platforms are also getting Grand Theft Auto IV. Halo 3 is a great game too and Xbox Live does cost money but is worth it imho.

bioshock IS amazing. that right there is worth owning a 360 for, unless you arent cheap and just get a PC that can run it. mouse/keyboard will always own anything a console will offer for controls.

mario is good. but when nintendo can't make any new franchises, everything gets stale. plus, mario gets boring after a while. there's not much substance. If you dislike the big 3 nintendo franchises (mario, zelda, metroid) then the wii is a terrible choice for you.

I say the XBOX 360 all the way. I have one and it kicks butt. Another reason why I would get the 360 is because of the modifications you can do to it. Say you modify your xbox 360 and say you go buy Halo 3 for $60, you wanna protect your investment. So make a copy of it and keep it in storage :-)

I'm not sure about the PS3 and what you can do to modify it. I haven't really checked up on it. But I just love my 360 so much that I'm not worried about every getting a PS3.

WTF dood? I dont fanboi any system. I dont own any system. I play them at some of my friends house and most of what I play on ps3 or xbox I can play on my PC. The only reason I like the Wii is because of the cool games I cant play on any other system. No reason to get your butt in a twist.

IMO, Nintendo adds new and better gameplay to thier games while all the others simply slap "part 2 or 3 or 4" on a game with the only difference being the graphics. One day the idiots will realize graphics do not make a game any better. The only reason I would buy a PS3 is for the new pac man, which is AWESOME, and their online world. I like the 360 championships. I wish I would have entered the Ms Pacman championship.

Now calm the fuck down and go play whatever you like please.

its not fanboyism if you like the games for being the games they are. fanboys just love a system because it has a name on it. keep in mind also that nintendo is also a game maker. its not like you can truly say you like sony or MS without being a fanboy. you would have to say that you like bungie or naughty dog. when i say i like nintendo, it means i like the game that nintendo makes. if they went the way of sega, making games for other systems, id still be following them.

I have 20 plus games which can be around 1200 dollars of free software. Bought a used xbox 360 thats refurbished which comes with headset and 20 gig hard drive. Got a silver card, another controler, a fan. And updated it all plus the games. I got maybe 1500 gamer points so far i can trade in. Its hard getting time to play all these games, i love ASSASSINS CREED and CALL OF DUTY4.

Even though I do not like many, many things about Sony, I will buy a PS3 after home comes out. I love how "Home" is designed and its really gonna kick off the PS3 as an online gaming console. I mostly like to play games online but I dont like to pay extra for that. "Home" reminds me of the Phantasy Star lounge on the Dreamcast from what Ive seen and read. I would spend hours playing in the lounge and chatting with other players before going on a quest. It was so cool and nothing has come close to PhantasyStar in all these years.

PS3 will start to gain some ground once they have a strong online line up.

Well I just bought a ps3. Why a ps3 over a 360? Only one major reason: failure rate. I know that M$ is about to come out with yet another revision, that is supposed to (again) fix their overheating issue, but hey, if they couldn't have it right by now, I'm not risking it.
Another factor was the bluray, which was just an added bonus for me, along with the upgradable Hard Drive. I likes me some space!

So far I am very happy with my new console. The online works well, and I'm loving it.

By the way, to the person who said a 'wiimote' is comming to the 360, the ps3 already has motion sensitive controllers, so why wait for the 360 to catch up?

There is (http://www.psheads.co.uk/2008/05/05/stream-media-from-a-pc-to-your-ps3/). On the Mac side, you'll need a $20 piece of software (http://www.nullriver.com/products/medialink). Both work just fine, from what I've been told.

I've been an Xbox 360 owner for two years now, and I still love it. But even I can admit that the PS3 is now the better bargain. With the built-in Wifi connectivity and Blu-Ray player, you just get more bang for the buck. I'll probably take the plunge once the MGS4 version comes out next month.

The war seems to be heating up between the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 owners. Sony says that GTA IV is "meant to be played" on the PS3 and not on the Xbox 360. And it seems that Rockstar hasn't helped the issue any when president Sam Houser said in a recent interview that the Xbox 360 discs lack the storage space needed, and that this is problematic for GTA IV on the 360. Score another for the PS3.

The storage babble is so weak anyways. Put the game on a couple of cheap DVD's and make even more money (why would any game maker not want to make MORE money? Hmmmm). I know the Blu Ray is great for movies but its not needed for gaming. What the hell do the consoles use the hard drives for anyway?

I guess my PC must suck as it has no Blu Ray drive. How has Sony been able to make some people think BR means better games? Its only a gimmick for game companies to use for hype. Look at GT4 as a prime example.

Blu Ray doesn't make better games, it give more storage on a single disc. Thats all.
Blu Ray does however give people a new way of viewing nice HD movies and such. This is the really big seller for the ps3 IMO, not 'better games' due to the drive...
The other really positive thing that came from sony using Blu Ray, was the hackability. No one has hacked the ps3 to run backups. This is great news for sony. The reason? Its too expensive for most people to buy a blu ray burner, and spend $15+ on single discs to try and hack it. Will it be hacked? Sure, but not anytime soon due to the costs involved!

As far as Blu Ray Drive Failures, go look on any ps3 forums, see how many posts you see about this issue. Now go to any xbox forum and see how many RROD posts there are.
There are practially NONE for ps3 and thousands for the xbox.
Every console will have SOME manufacturing defects, but the 360 has FAR more then ANY console EVER MADE (including but not limited to ps3)!
NO COMPARISON, PERIOD.

What is the hard drive space used for you ask? Downloadable content. Songs, games, homebrew, picutres, movies, you name it, you can store/play it from the hard drive.

I currently have all of the third-gen consoles, and I have to say that the PS3 is my favourite.

I just tried to compare these two consoles in the web.
Okay. Here are the results:

Microsoft XBox 360 (http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/game-consoles/xbox-360/)
Score: 7.4 out of 10 based on reviews from 152 sources in 32 countries.

Sony PlayStation 3 (http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/game-consoles/sony-playstation-3/)
Score: 9.0 out of 10 based on reviews from 137 sources in 29 countries.

So as you can see yourself the best score has the second one.
As for me - I'm totally agree with the crowd
