well here (http://www.divshare.com/download/1987915-b9d) are some of the files that we could put in... (cancel the file download) Note: there is a high chance of virus in some of the files..

I'm running PeerGuardian 2.0 Beta 6b (09/18/2005)

It gets the job done with low resources, although I have had it go haywire and had to re install etc.

All in all, easier to use then the other blocklist managers.

Who put that list together? It's not bad, maybe a tad heavy depending on what you do with your collection.

I'm also working on a re packaged Portables DVD, screen shots below, what do you think? I can make one JUST for BT and P2P which would be much smaller, and all Portable, so no installations required, just keep on HD or thumbdrive.

One's a jpeg the other bmp. When the image loads CLICK on it.

Heh I wonder if you know the half of it. It's a work in progress, I may put them on the backend of a Vista PE Boot DVD as apps from the Start Menu.

Guess no one is listening to me.

dBpoweramp is good... but are u sure that we need 4 separate mp3 players in the pack?
k-lite mega codec pack, qtlite, vlc player and dBpower can do the same thing i am not sure which one is best...

Well, I AM the "MusicMuser" (in case you missed it, yes that's me on P2P).
dBpoweramp is the "Swiss Army Knife of Audio."

I thought those codec packs were frowned upon because they add a lot of unnecessary stuff and too many codecs interfere with each other? I've never needed them.

Purely for PC viewing I'd advocate:

VLC for most stuff.

RealAlternative for rmvb files.

Er... matroska codec just in case?

Can't see what wouldn't play with those three installed.

Xtripit

I have been using CCCP codec pack for a long time now. Brilliant support for everything I throw at it (DVD, x264, xvid etc.) incl. Matroska (mkv) files. Also includes Media Player Classic which wipes the floor with VLC in terms of functionality.

And yes codec packs are frowned upon, because many users make the mistake of installing several codec packs and fucking up their system, when they should only be using one.

I would include EAC+LAME+FLAC encoder (depending on whether you encode FLAC or mp3) for ripping perfect quality music as well. While it takes longer, it can't get any better than that. Guides on configuring it can be found on most every music site. Only downside is that it is Windows Only, so MAC users have to settle with the next best thing, which I don't know what is as I'm not a Mac user.

Also CCleaner is very good for those people that try out a bunch of programs/games and then uninstall again. Programs have a habit of leaving things behing, and the registry cleaner in CCleaner is more careful than in most other registry cleaners.

And then Azureus 2.5.0.4 as BitTorrent client to prevent being asked to update several times a year. I would not recommend the newest version because of bloatware.

Foobar2000 (Standalone audio player)

Highly customable and and low on resources. If you want your own setup, then it will take a while to learn. But thankfully many good-hearted souls make their setup available for download.

Shouldn't a "Bitorrent Survival kit 2008" just contain all the things needed to Transport your downloads and protect pc (ie. ip blockers), and windows SP2 patch etc...

Players and codecs and dvd encoders should be in a different Kit.

ok ccleaner & azureus added

still kinda shaky on the music/moives playing and for now k-lite codec pack and qtlite removed.

Edit: to sum it up, so far:

uTorrent - Torrent Downloading
Azureus - Torrent Downloading
WinRAR - Uncompress Files
PowerIso - Open/make/burn image files like .iso, .daa
Foxit Reader - Very Small PDF reader
CCCP codec pack - Codecs for Playing Moives
VLC player - Play's all music/movie files
VSO Convert X to DVD - Name says it all
CCleaner - Clean Up your PC

Now what about quicktime files? aa *Lynda.com*
I think standalone would be good thing i think utorrent could count as standalone. rest don't have standalone yet.I would love some standalone apps :)
and btw how are guides coming?

I haven't tested these yet:
vnc-server
rush-ftp
putty
EAC+LAME+FLAC encoders
webUI for utorrent
so can any1 conform this?

Im not sold on the Crap Cleaner.

"vnc-server
rush-ftp
putty"

I wouldnt do this, this is not essential to P2P use. If it were me, I would focus on the survival guide aspects and provide those sort of utils. You can capture guides from various sites as a .mht file to include as help files too.

And FYI, cuz I know whow much this will make your day, until yesterday moonlight had the same reputation points that you had. I just wanted you to get a feel for the equity of your contributions here.

I haven't tested these yet:

EAC (Exact Audio Copy)
LAME Encoder (for mp3. The best Audio Encoder Out There)
FLAC Front End (for FLAC. By far the most popular lossless codec around)

so can any1 conform this?

Go to any lossless tracker or ask at Hydrogenaudio forums. Or if you know anyone from a music release group.

I have been collecting music for a long time now and in the process learned a few things along the way.

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=60145

And http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=60131&st=0&p=539106&#entry539106

Although I do not recommend ever using burst mode even if it's faster, but the rest of the stuff there is right on the money. (The are talking about making perfect rips of 5000 Cds though, so maybe fast is better lol)

No, I cant tell you, and this is your project. Unless you have a deadline, just take your time and do some research. Throw in 6 giudes, who cares, they are just saved web pages anyways.

I would encourage you to not throw in the kitchen sink, just make it a survival guide, you can just include an nfo with links to some of the extra things people may need for multimedia, which I would do.

By the time you get this done and seeded, most of these will have newer verions anyways, so just hyperlink to the product group and let individuals decide.

DVDfab HD Decrypter

i just had to use it for a new DVD today. my vote for dvd ripping is still dvd decrypter, but it wont do it all anymore. better yet, list ripit4me as that incorporates dvd decrypter, dvd shrink and fixvts all in one. until today, it had a 100% rip rate for me.

also where is the virus scanning tools? avast gets my vote.
