Hey guys, is there anyway to convert a few PAL miniDV tapes I've received from Europe into NTSC so I can view them? Right now when I try to play them off my NTSC camcorder, I get garbled picture and no sound. I tried playing it from camcorder to TV, and from camcorder to computer. The camcorder is a Canon ZR80.

I did a little research and from what I gather, it's only possible to convert them using hardware not software means? Can I at least watch them on my computer somehow? I don't know anything about this stuff so I am posting here for a second opinion.

Hi.

Unless your camcorder is capable of playing both PAL & NTSC then it's a no go I'm afraid.

Here are you options:

1> Purchase a Standards Converter, (not cheap!)
2> Post the tape to a friend in Europe to capture and digitize it for you,
3> Borrow an NTSC/PAL camcorder and digitize it yourself.

Darn, thats what I figured. :(
I tried looking for a setting or hack for my camcorder to play both but it seems none exists.
