Me and my family are going to eat at the Holiday Inn. Its a good place to stay plus they have a kick ass Thanksgiving Buffet. My mom and my sister are in bad health so we couldnt ask them to cook. I would try cooking but we would end up having burgers and fries.

You guys are not going to believe me, what with my reputation as being a "b*tch", "cow" (<-- my fave!!) and all other manner of things, but we are going to serve the homeless, at one of the shelters here.
We haven't decided which one yet.
Giving thanks, you know.
At any rate, I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

I absolutely hate Thanksgiving.. and this year is definitely going to be the worst yet. I may or may not make a cameo appearance at my aunt's house this year to see my family, but I will be spending the majority of my time with my friends (probably).

On a lighter note, I got to spend my first Thanksgiving with all my sisters and mother. This meaning that after first connecting with them 13 years ago, I had my first Thanksgiving with them ever. I truly had a wonderful time.

I bought a huge 14 pound turkey the day after Thanksgiving, and it's all just for me. I didn't share a meal with anyone on turkey day, so I should have looked for a dinner somewhere. It was okay to stay at home, I was busy anyway, editing video from the Furfest.

I had a very interesting Thanksgiving weekend.
Preface- We bought our current home 2 years ago, this was our first time hosting any holiday here.
So thursday morning, cleaning the house top to bottom (can't have our guests seeing how we actually live, now can we?), anyways, doing the enviable task of wiping down the exterior of the toilet, I notice a nice web of cracks in the porcelain bowl.
Thats dangerous, if it shatters, not only is someone sitting in a flood of their own shit water, but probably all sliced up too because ceramic shards are sharp as razors.
So can't do much about it till friday, 'cept warn all my guests to sit lightly if they must use it. That wasn't embarrasing, much, anyway.
Friday morning, go out into the black friday throngs to buy a new toilet, and discover that toilets are now gold plated or something, 'cause last time I bought a new one it was like $80 and now some of them are $800!
Ok, so no biggie, I find one that has the "comfort height" and elongated bowl my wife wants for $250, I get over the sticker shock and cart it home.
I did apartment maintenance for a couple years in my youth, replaced a lot of toilets, so I figure an hour or so, new toilet, life flushes onward.
Then I pull out the old one and see why it cracked up.
The asshole who sold us the place apparently ripped out the tile floor and replaced it with linoleum. Thats not too bad, cheap ass, but ok I guess.
Problem was the dipshit didn't lower the closet flange (thingy the toilet bolts to) when he lowered the floor 3/4". So the toilet was balanced above the floor. He had piled mounds of caulk under it to try and make up the difference, but it rocked, leaked, rusted out the flange till it broke, rotted out the flooring underneath it, all that.
So now I gotta replace the whole floor.
Pulled out the vanity and sink, tearing out half the drywall in the process since dipshit used about 10lbs of silicone to anchor the thing to the wall, and ripped out the linoleum.
Which Earl Scheib hadn't even glued down, just used double sided carpet tape around the perimeter and a couple strips down the middle to hold. So leakage from the toilet was able to flow around under the linoleum too.
Then chisel off the cast iron flange, and tear out the rotten sub floor (which turned into powder mostly).
Tell my wife our only bathroom is out of commision for the rest of the weekend at least, so she packs up the Dolly (our pet name for our daughter) and heads off to her moms.
I go buy tile, bullnose, wonderboard, thinset, grout, trowels, floats, tile saw, assorted little crap essential to doing the job, and knee pads, to the tune of $800.
Still friday. So I work till 1am replacing the subfloor and installing the wonderboard.
Heading for bed, my business phone rings. Its the city of Romulus calling, they have a watermain break and need me to come cut up the road so they can get to it and repair it.
6am Sat morning, I make it back home. 6:30am another call, city of Flat Rock, watermain break. Fuck.
11am, back home. Start installing tile, finished about 3pm. Finally get to bed, got up a little after 8pm and realized I haven't eaten since thanksgiving dinner.
My wife took all the leftovers to her moms, so its run for the border time (and use their bathroom too). Got back a little after 9, another call comes in, Brownstown watermain break.
This happens whenever Detroit kicks up the delivery pressure, all the weak spots in all the cities that feed from Detroit start poppin'. So, this one's bad, they can't find where the break is and I'm out there all night cutting holes in the road, waiting while they dig around a bit, then moving down a few feet and cutting another area up.
Making good money on this emergency stuff, but I'm dead on my feet.
5:30 am sunday morning, finally get home. Crashed hard, didn't get up till 2pm.
Went to McDs to eat and use their pooper, then came home and grouted.
Watched No Country for Old Men (which was disappointing) and went to bed.
Did three jobs today and just got done sealing the grout when I started posting this.
Tonight, I can put back the toilet and sink.
Tomorrow I get to see my wife and daughter again. I miss'em.

Wow, what a story! Well, at least be thankful that you do have a house, and control of your own living space that you can do those things, as hard as they might be.

Well, I finally read the rest of CF's story. I hope his lack of posting yesterday means he finally was able to connect with his wife and Dolly.
I am sure that by your going in when your job called, life was much easier on many others. You helped a LOT of people that day.
Late Happy Thanksgiving, man (it s*cks that she took all the food!)!
