if one was the #1 downloader at oink they would surely know how to get into any site they wanted

One might speak to admins in their respective irc channels.

If one was the #1 downloader on OiNK, and had a 3.4TB lossless music library on a 7-hard-drive RAID5 system...

If all your music is downloaded, you don't stand a chance of getting into E***o, since they forbid almost all 3rd party rips. Unless you ripped it yourself, they don't want it.

If he has 'quite a few rare' music recordings then he should definitely catalog the rarest recordings he owns and mention those when speaking to the appropriate parties on the irc channel.

Otherwise, once he's able to get into them, waffles and what will be happy to have him.

Also, you might want to tell your 'friend' he needs to work on his people skills. DLing 3.4TB and only posting twice to the forums is, imo, more than a little rude. By his actions, he's basically saying "sure, I'll take the music you worked so hard to upload, but I won't talk to you." Not only will communicating give him an opportunity to show his gratitude, it will allow him to make the necessary contacts to get the inside scoop on the next refuge when the shit hits the fan, rather than being left out in the cold.

Enter8,

Thanks for the suggestion to catalog those CDs

In that user's opinion, saying "thank you very much" in the torrent thread is enough of a demonstration of gratitude, would you not agree? The user did that in about 25% of the torrents he downloaded (which total over 6,000). 1,500 'Thank you's are enough, without a doubt.

But saying "thank you' doesn't usually encourage much conversation, and the user rarely went back to a downloaded torrent's thread to check upon further conversation after his "thank you," so not much sociability occured as a result of it.

i'd agree that it's a demonstration of gratitude. but with many things in life, it's more about who you know.

If one was the #1 downloader on OiNK, and had a 3.4TB lossless music library on a 7-hard-drive RAID5 system, how should that #1 downloader try to get into E**** if they kept quite hush-hush at OiNK and never really talked to anyone and don't know anyone else in the lossless torrent community? That same downloader only uploaded massive (20+GB) sound FX and sample libraries, not lossless albums, so they never received an E**** invite.

If no one has any truly brilliant ideas, maybe that downloader will just have to wait until the next big oink-successor gets established, but the E**** community looks appealing...

WTF? Dont u mean #1 UPLOADER? In any event the successor for OiNk will be either What or Waffles, but my money's on Waffles since it's based in Sweden where it cant get busted.......

My money is on the established trackers, like stmusic. If you like beta testing, then go for what or waffles, but startup trackers always have issues to work through, its just the way it is.

Either way u look at it, my money's on the one that ends up in Sweden.

IMHO, the best part of the torrent community is not only being able to share or seed but mostly to meet ppl with similar music tastes, making friends, et al. I live in a distant city in Brazil, in which I would never have access to all such cool tunes if I was not involved in this strange, but fascinating, community.

I am sure someone with such a ratio like your friend had of FLAC files will be welcomed in any big music site, and a nice person to meet and know. Tell your friend it is good to post more than once, and also participate in IRC channels a while too.

And if he needs any good invitations, PM me and let me know :icon_pira

Thanks enter8 for the helpful information. Only about .2% of that lossless music was ripped by that OiNK member himself, so you're right, it doesn't look like he'd be useful to E***, though he does have an extensive CD library, with quite a few rare music recordings.

That "one member" was just an expert at uploading large sound FX and sample libraries. Barely talked to anyone while a member of oink, minded their own business, posted on the forums only twice. Just daily went to to each category and downloaded s***loads of music, continued seeding his individual torrents (each 10GB large on average), which ended up getting him an upload level of 2.7TB. Most people that wish to increase their ratios are ignorant and seed little torrents of a few hundred megabytes. This one member wasn't.

Of course, that OiNK member would have to behave differently at E****, unless seeding his 170-CD complete Bach works box set, 140-CD complete Mozart set, etc. ;) jk

Looks like he'll have to wait around until the next great OiNK-successor comes along.

who the hell cares? blah blah TB on a RAID 5 blah blah blah. other than meaningless cock measuring, what would this person need to be on any site for? hell, they could start their own site if they wanted to "help the lossless community"

this looks like some narc trying to infiltrate the flavor of the week torrent site by making themselves sound like a bigshot with the hopes that some greedy idiot will invite them. no doubt the same technique they used to get into oink

Here is the filelist for my sorted collection. I divide my collection into two categories, sorted and unsorted. Each category has 4 subcategory folders of world, classical, jazz, and the "main" (pop/rock/experimental/misc/etc) folder.

I had to split my 18megabyte filelist txt into fourths and zip the text files in order to meet the 480k upload maximum.

Maybe these will give you somewhat of an idea that I'm not kidding...*sigh*

This doesn't matter anyway, because it looks like E**** doesn't have invites anyway...I'll just wait til waffles or some other tracker takes oink's place of greatness.

And GOOD LUCK getting in! Most of those sites have become so closed, you cannot even get in on opening day. So you are gonna need a bit of luck just to get in Waffles.fm or What.cd.

it would be so hard to fake a text file, wouldn't it? oh man, it would be, like, impossible and stuff.

You haven't been listening. (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=516851&postcount=12)

STMusic's okay...but waffles.fm is pretty rockin right now. The beauty is that its BASED in SWDEN so no worries about it getting busted like elsewhere.

Waffles, What and STMusic are ALL, at this very moment, hosted by Leaseweb- in the Netherlands. The exact same web host as Oink. Waffles and What are both planning to move to Sweden once the PRQ facility is finished being built.

Sweden is meaningless in this equation, as both Waffles and What are 'ending up' there- probably sooner rather than later due to Brein's recent full court press against Leaseweb (http://torrentfreak.com/leaseweb-forced-to-shut-down-more-bittorrent-sites-071116/).

I have been watching this thread, laughing, but now I will post my thoughts. How refreshing that you have finally started referring to yourself, rather than "that one member." (http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=519124&postcount=6)

How true, aboghosian.

After such sloppy "fishing", I would not invite this "one member" to a free pumpkin-seed-spitting contest.

Uh yah, Im well aware, but to my knowledge Waffles is the only one that has said point blank that they were going to Sweden from the very beginning.

....

Guess I'm dealing with the wrong crowd. Don't know what else I can do to prove it, even though I have no need to now, since I have an invite to what.cd. And additionaly, dealing with useless banter like this is another reason why I didnt' post or chat in OiNK often. Their music chat forums were always about "who sounds like who", "i went to this concert and it rocked" I never found suggestions for more than 1 or 2 extra new artists I now like in the forum (mainly cuz I'm a musicology student and was exposed to a lot of different music), so I didnt' bother to participate and meet many people that way.

Guess that means you'll be leaving now.
*sigh*

It's very simple. Oink in gone and you can't prove your an ex oinker right? Just go to waffles irc channel like all the other people and follow the procedure. I'll probably get my invite soon but i understand it's the way of things. The back and forth between everyone is wasted energy....
