The Infrastructure for Resilient Internet Systems (IRIS) will solve technical problems with existing P2P networks such as Gnutella and KaZaA and speed up searches and information transfer over the internet.
P2P isn't always a dirty acronym it seems with news that the US government - that's right the Feds - is currently funding the development of a new P2P network to someday even supersede the web itself.
Dubbed the Infrastructure for Resilient Internet Systems (IRIS), the goal of the P2P network is to speed up searches and information transfer over the internet and to discourage DDOS attacks by hackers.

Finally, the feds are doing something worthwhile with our tax money. Although the acronym IRIS, looks suspiciously like IRS.

Thats not what I meant. I just thought that it was good that government was researching more efficient ways of transferring data.

Oh REALLY??? Well tell me then....WHY is the US Government in a war with a country they claimed had weapons of mass destruction and it turned out they did not....yet the Government LIED to the American people and covered that fact up? And yet despite finding out the truth, they STILL insist this war is necessary?

Why is it that the US Government wants to export most of the jobs in the US to other countries including China?

Why is it that the US Government can't even control the influx of illegal aliens across the southern border to Mexico? Or even know who the hell is crossing the border in the first place? That is really some security we have after 9/11!

Or why hasn't the US Government stuck up for two border patrol agents that were doing their job and are now in prison for shooting a drug dealer that was bringing illegal drugs into this country from Mexico..... and after his release and they went to jail.... HE DID IT AGAIN?

Then there is the whole katrina disaster relief effort...don't even get me started on that one!

There are more blunders and cover ups (as well as high officials in the Bush administration and congress getting arrested for everything from sex charges in a mens bathroom to some senator having tons of money in a freezer in his own congressional office!) I could post more, but I think you get the point.

Then lets talk about how the government has backed big business. They have been behind laws that make the DMCA and the idiotic restrictions that come along with it.

And you want to tell me the government is NOT trying screw the American people?

Sorry, but I think your comment is wrong! Dead wrong.

I HOPE that you are right soul. ICANN does control the web now....but that was set up way before there was a DMCA in place and way before the media mafia had really realized what was going on with the net.

BUT....now they know....especially after what the original napster did.....It woke them up to exactly how much the net can hurt them and hurt them bad. So I would not be suprised to find out they fight this neutrality with everything they have. Because if the net as we know it becomes anonomyous? It is probably "game over" for them. And they would know it.
