Hi everyone, I'm posting this in desperation. Here goes....I've been a loyal account holder of Demonoid for over a year now, last month as you all know by now Demonoid was forced to stop all traffic coming from Canada. This is a problem for me because I live in Canada and now have no access to my beloved Demonoid.
I've tried everything to re-access the site. From what I've heard the way to do it is to use a Proxy. I've tried this, however all this allows me to do is view the Demonoid site as a guest but I am unable to log into my account for some odd reason. Every time I try and log into my account I get errors, no matter what Proxy server I'm using. So what good is this Proxy routine if I can't log into my account and download! I know its not just my account either because this is happening to a friend of mine also.
I keep reading on Forums that people have actually gotten Demonoid to work for them, so i ask HOW? I want my Demonoid back, I've tried using other sites but its just not the same.
If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to post, I need all the help i can get, THANKS EVERYONE!

I think it absolutely SUCKS that people from other countries can't get into their own torrent site they had been a member of for a long time because so many laws have been passed in big business favor!

I can only hope that the RIAA and MPAA someday are no longer needed and new models are born for distribution on the net.

But until that day happens, we are stuck with this BS.

Two options for you:

1) Move to a better country
2) move to a better tracker, fyi - just about any tracker is better than demonoid.

just make sure you are using a proxy that

a) is based in a country that demonoid allows
b) has an option to use cookies and you check it

and you should be good

Wow, if a site is better than Demonoid, then that means it must REALLY be great. Their interface is nice and easy to use, with large enough text, and no funny browser tricks like the descriptions that slide open, you just go right to the torrent's page. The members most times put a good description of the file they upload, sometimes very detailed, and there are comments or reviews on most torrents, unlike at other sites.

Oh yeah, here's a tip, try http://demonoid.cc as an alternate address. I don't know if it works woof in Canada, but it might be useful when the other server is down.

i certainly would love to hear some alternatives, or at least why you think its the worst of the bunch.

fyi - demonoid is just about better than any tracker.

Assuming you're running windows, I would suggest you use Mozilla Firefox as your browser and do the following:

1. Go to http://www.torproject.org/download.html.en and download and install the Tor proxy bundle for Windows.

2. Once Tor is installed, go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2275 and install the Torbutton addon for Firefox.

Whenever you want to go to Demonoid.com, simply press the Torbutton on the bottom-right corner of the browser window so it says "Tor Enabled", and enter the web address as you normally would (make sure the main Tor program is running before doing this).

This works beautifully for me every time from Prince Edward Island (Canada).

I think most people (like myself) do not like demonoid because it is basically a public tracker. You can go to a public search and download a demonoid torrent, and download the file without ever having an account at demonoid.

This means 2 things.
1. Demonoid can not enforce ratios. This means there will be very few, if any, seeders on older files, since no one is forced to seed back. Even on the files with seeders, it is almost always very very very slow.
2. Security is comprimised. ANYONE can grab that torrent, and get a list of peers who are active on that torrent. If you have a private site, even if some one grabs the torrent file (unlikely), they will be unable to connect to the peers due to the password hash.

Now I will agree that demonoid has some excellent content, some very rare stuff too, but those 2 facts will keep me from considering it a valuable resource.
