If it isn't going to be private sounds like it would be full of RIAA people.

Yeah, this isn't right. I got no prolem with it being public, only that it makes it imposossible to keep all the content good quality. It will also mean, without a ratio system to keep people uploading their will be tons of unseeded torrents. IMO, it's defiling Oink's good name.

Closing the doors on filesharing is bullshit. Even though you may not be happy with the quality of every file and you may have to wait 5 more minutes to get your file (whoop!) at least its open to everyone. Members only sites are dumb and will only serve to kill the filesharing community, bit by bitorrent.

Filesharing should be just like a public library except you shouldnt ever have to sign up for anything or pay a late fee. Id rather see people use Kazaa than use any website that requires people to sign up and then tracks their habits. Oh yeah, S M A R T!

Im not a BT nut but I gotta give props to the Pirate Bay. They fight the good fight, although they will lose someday, and they do it out in the public community. Fuck OINK. Set the files free and lets move on.

I see where you are coming from but the pointo of a closed community meant a little extra securtity and the ability to maintain a decnt seeder/leecher ration while at the same time keeping the quality of the files high. I think the pros of a closed community out weigh the cons.

The point of a closed community is to encourage people to SHARE. which on public sites next to nobody does either cause they don't care or because they are afraid of getting nailed by 1 of the million people scouring the same torrent looking for a poster boy to nail on the front page of the paper.

All of Oink's files were free.... every site that i know of is free.... They are just invite only to keep the above trash out of the community.

people allways talk about quality of oink close to everything was top notch

Am i wrong? can this be said for p2p apps at all or even usenet

I agree it should be in the public eye but what guarantee is there for it's quality or what could be put in place to ensure crap will not reach the end user imagine the work that would have to be put in place if it were open to all people.

please dont say you are getting it for free how can you complain this will just be rubbish in the eyes of many users

I like the concept of what they are doing and the message that it sends to the IFPI and the BPI. It states a clear message that they can't scare us into stopping filesharing. But as a former member(still am in heart!!) I also find it to be very degrading to the original OniK.cd name. Sure they can due this in memory of the great and successful OinK.cd but they should try to replace it with something so trivial and unmanaged...
