Asked a friend of mine and he said stmusic is the best one after oink. 60,000 users can't be bad.

Libble seems to be a good contender as the OinK replacement.

STMusic is where all the old Oinkers are going.

STMusic has ordered more hardware to deal with the new load and they are changing the site features to cater for user uploads and new categories, the same as oink had.

it's not the amount of the users but how they use the site. i'm sure ftn and ftwr could open signups for an hour and reach that limit. then likely these sites would goto craps

Yeah stmusic is the best music torrent site now and the also have archive torrents now ( none scene torrents ).

On The Stmusic Homepage -

2007-10-25 - If you have albums to upload and can do so, we urge you to - ultimately the goal is to make the user uploads section very oink-esque to appeal to the influx of new members. If you have any suggestions for the system please post in the forums.

I've actually been a member of StMusic and OiNK for a couple of months and I still preferred OiNK because you could find anything that was brand new. I like it they have added user torrents but it hasn't made me DL more. I could hear some remix I had heard on the radio and 90% of the time, OiNK had it. First time hearing about a non Pitchfork endorsed indie band? OiNK had it. There were no boundaries in finding whatever music was new to you, they had it. That's what I miss the most, reading about some track I hadn't heard of and then being able to find it on OiNK. If STMusic and similar torrent sites can reach this, the world of torrents will be good. Because you can always find any popular artist/band on any torrent sites, its those hidden obscure gems you didn't know about before that can make your day. I'm sure I won't be finding a Natalie Walker "quicksand" song remix by the Thievery Corporation on these new torrent sites anytime soon, will I?

The point I was making is that most of oink users have joined stmusic & now they have very recently introduced user torrents ( in the last few days!! ) it's a step forward. All the old members of oink will hopefully upload all the torrents they had on Oink to StMusic and it's happy days. Yes we know Oink was awesome for rare tracks & albums..... but if people start uploading to STM it will be a good substitute.

Is anyone else getting a bit annoyed at people repeating each other, it's always the same.
Yes Oink was by far the best tracker....... now move on, it's gettin boring

Hmm no lossless at stmusic ...

Also on the home page:

# 2007-10-25 - User uploads are online in something of a beta form, there will be many changes made to the system over the coming weeks - to upload a torrent click the "Upload" button on the menu, basic rules: Don't upload scene rips (yet), FLAC releases must be in the flac container (.flac file), and mvid's must use the AVI container, if you don't know what format it was encoded in, then don't upload it. There will be more rules posted after we decide on all the specifics, but please don't hesitate to upload music now. Additionally, unconnectable users are NOT allowed to upload torrents, if an unconnectable user uploads a torrent they will be warned and then banned, DON'T DO IT. Also, ten new categories have been added, including Music Videos and MDVDR's, by popular request. They will be added to the regular upload regiment shortly.

stmusic has only 30,000 users. Demonoid is bigger.

incognito129
October 29th, 2007, 08:50 PM
Its growing 2,000 users per day and about 1500 torrents per day.

Its the new oink. Give it time and it'll rise to oink status.

Way ahead of the other new sites that just sprung up, imo with shitty selection and slow speeds.

Yeah, I joined ST Music and it is great! I am sure when they get the scene rips and losless worked out, it will do fantastic. BUT.....If you are going to get in....better do it now though. No telling when they will close registration for good.

They should be closing sometime soon. The tentative plan is for approximately 40,000 users. Perhaps a little more, perhaps a little less. With that projection, they should be closing fairly soon.

Besides the music, I really miss the software collection Oink maintained. Since STMusic implies its genre in the name, will they eventually allow users to upload programs?

Good point. Oink had a GREAT software selection.

I hope STMusic eventually allows software also.

And so what? are you gonna shoot them down with stupid sayings or educate and point them in the right direction so that they might learn. Once upon a time, we were are newbies, and sadly, many forget that.

Anyway,

Private trackers only evolve to great status when there user's does the same. Meaning, for a tracker to be good as OiNK, it takes users to help build it over time. Many of the users in the sharing community are low on patience.

Agree 100%

We are all noobs after all... And it is good to be noob on something sometimes, including on trackers. Would life be fun if we were unable to learn and experience something new ?

Well to answer a few questions (I'm an stmusic admin):

We're considering adding an apps category in the future

80% of our users aren't kazaa users, quite the opposite, we were scene music only for ages so it's a good crowd.

We're at Registered users 46,976 users now so we're looking good. Just a reminder to anyone reading this we're closing signups and switching to invite only on Friday 9th November so you don't have long if you do want to try us out.

First of all, let me extend a warm welcome :)

STMusic has gone to considerable lengths to court the ex-Oink community and I'm sure I speak for many when I say thank you for all you've done. Quite a few music trackers quickly shut their doors when they saw the influx of ex-Oinkers coming, but your site did the opposite and welcomed them with open arms. That says a lot.

I was a fairly active member at Oink, but more importantly, I've been watching the post Oink fallout like a hawk and feel like I have a pretty good idea of where the head of the average ex-Oinker is at. As I said before, you've gone to considerable lengths, but if capturing a greater share of the Oink exodus is your goal, I think there are some further things you can do.

Freeleech

People will 'shop' where they have the most 'currency.' If I'm looking for an album, I'll search on the trackers where I have the largest buffer first, because that's where I have the 'money' to spend. Freeleech stimulates activity and gives members 'money' in the bank.

Don't Segregate User Uploads

I know you have a devoted pre-oink fallout membership base that you don't want to alienate, but if you truly want to make Oink users feel welcome, combine the scene releases with the user uploads.

Re-Design

Your site desperately requires a make-over. Never underestimate the power of design. The biggest and best trackers are almost always the best designed ones. It doesn't have to be pink or cute, just better.

Your site is definitely a major player and will continue to be for the foreseeable future, but if you really want the Oink contingent to migrate to you in droves, these are the steps I'd take.

I wish you and your site well.

and a warm welcome from me too...adding on to what enter8 said, i think it's wonderful that you've actively encouraged people, and not only ex-oinkers, to join your site. as an earlier poster said, many forget the we all were noobs at some point of time, and you cannot discount the fact than many noobs can and will become valuable members of a community.

you could have made it a snotty club, you didn't. keep up the good work.

Hey everyone! I'm a long time demonoid user now turned refugee. I'm looking for a new home for myself. I'm not a wretched user, greedy person, or basically any of the types that would pollute a private site. I had uploaded over 100 gigs and had a share ratio reaching 2.

Does anyone have any suggestions or feel like helping out a fellow user please? Feel free to PM me here or send me an email to wonderfulmetropolis@yahoo.com.
