ok i'm here in Australia (the land which the internet forgot) where we only have 3 lines out of the damn country, we have only just discovered DSL which is only just in the capital cities (which helps me great being hours away from civilization) so i'm using twin pair copper phone line connected to a 56k modem, which at most pulls at 4k/s (as long as a dingo doesn't eat the phone line)
:mellow
and i have just spent the last 4 day's (on and off) downloading a rare anime divx from a ftp
so i jump on kazza and with in 30mins some ones found it and is using all my badwidth leeching it off me
and i'm sure that 750mg file airnt no tragidy to some users but hey it's going to take days to leech off me
so i sent a nice message explaining the situation and telling him where i found it
and i got a nice message back
"f:crossck you c:crossnt if your not willing to share then why are you using p2p"
so in these situations i'm tempted to stop sharing all together
hey i like p2p
but why don't i just set up a pub and not have to deal with stupid ppl all together

I see your problem. If your using 56k it wouldn't be worth it to try and download that huge file from you in the first place. I certainly don't mind if 56kers don't wan't to share huge files. Just as long as you do share some files. In this case, cancel the asshole just because of his attitude. Anyone who responds like that doesn't belong on P2P.

but movies come on .... i feel guilty using kazza to grab them myself because i just take so long
ppl please tell me that you look at the conection and bandwidth befor you download because poor ppl like me get dis-heartend when you have waited 10min for a song come back and somone stolen your bandwidth

I got a similar message. I logged off and the P2P community lost one more file sharer. I still follow the legal battles though. I do wonder if the entertainment industry is behind this, they are behind fake files and they DO want P2P dead, dead, dead.

if you are on dialup DON'T PUT HUGE FILES IN YOUR SHARED FOLDER!!!
if you want, share lots of little ones--it's not like kazaa has minimum requirements

is their any satelite access for you their at all?
over here in the U.S. in rural areas some folks use satelite to access the net.
also how about getting some buddies who will give you access to their ftp sites and help ya out. also friends can send stuff via mail as some of my buds would do when access was a total hassle.
peace

yeah we have saterlite but you have to prove that you have no other reliable net access or pay $1500 just for the priverlige of them putting a dish up
and i use ftp sites alot but once again it's the time to upload the file onto them

I'm with notbob. I would never share huge files (anything over 30MB for sure, maybe even anything over 10MB) on a dial up connection because nearly any file is huge when you are asking a telephone modem and the POTS to download or upload it. It would seem to me that you should be sharing smaller files that people want and not sharing anything that might be considered big. It'd make more sense in the long run. You'll just have to reconsider sharing the whole hard drive and start sharing just a part of it.

when I was on dial up Id share music and nothing but music, I downloaded around 5 gigs of music before I ever made broadband... I would download anything (well, not movies, I did not have the patience) and share only the music. When it takes 45 minutes to download a song off me, people would be insane to try and get movies. hell, even no, with my 128 upstream cap, it still takes too long to get a movie from me if I am the only source. but hell, I still share them.
and btw, come january I WILL (for all you old ZP heads, I mean it this time!) be setting up a fulltime ftp server. just keep in touch and I'll make sure you kno about it when the time comes. Im just waiting for those 250gig drives to come down in price so I can share all my movies and such.
