have tryed/used and seen many BT trackers, many p2p softwares... and came to this conclusion:
soulseek - the best for the single tunes;
emule - the best for the albums.
for example: why these 2 p2p softwares beats the best BT tracker for music OiNK.cd? I have 10 reasons. in OiNK.cd:
1. nothing below 192kbps is allowed
2. livesets are not allowed
3. transcodes are not allowed (wondering what does it mean)
4. its impossible to seed cause 99% of the torrents have 0 leechers (the only way to keep good ratio - is to upload...)
5. discographies are not allowed
6. only official releases are allowed
7. if you got the PU+ rank - it doesnt mean anything... cause you can easily lose every moment because the mods are PRICKS.
8. mods are PRICKS
9. mods are PRICKS
and 10. mods are PRICKS
I'm on OiNK.cd for 1month now. and during the 1month period - got about 3 warnings because I uploaded transcodes and unofficial release as they said... the last warning I got today - for 4 weeks + got demoted from PU+ to PU (because I uploaded transcode as they said). now I even cant upload cause some mod demoted me from PU+ to PU and I have wait till the warning expires + after 4 weeks I will have to contact the mod who demoted me asking to promote to PU+ again cause I "wanna" upload torrents.
p.s.: during 1month I uploaded 10GB keeping my ratio ~10.00... just tryed to be a good and valuable member. it doesnt matter that you have good intentions cause mods are PRICKS, rules SUCK there... and OiNK.cd is just A BIG PIECE OF CRAP.
On soulseek and emule you never get warnings, banns... you dont need to waste your time preparing, creating and uploading a torrent file... you dont need to worry about your ratio.
Its such a blessing to use soulseek and emule instead of the OiNK.cd: you add something to download and you can relax, enjoy downloading... enjoy your life. But in OiNK.cd you always have the headaches about ratio and some crap like this.

All the reasons you listed are why so many people love OiNK (apart from the mods being pricks of course).
As a side note transcodes are bad. You should never transcode lossy -> lossy as you lose quality.

oink has top quality only. if you don't mind garbage quality and the possibility of your albums being incomplete use slsk.

I'm not even talking about that that soulseek and emule can use everyone freely... and to get into BT trackers it takes years for someone (what a pathetic situation)...

It doesn't take years. It just takes patience and perseverance. Imagine you spending time to download a new game for your Xbox only to find out its the demo only. Then you spend more time downloading the same game again - another demo. regardless if it was soulseek, emule or whatever. It would piss you off.
That's why the rules are so stringent on great trackers like Oink. To save people who may have slow connections from downloading something for hours, only to find out it's junk.

ltev2006, you only have yourself to blame for not following the rules. If the person who invited you didn't direct you to read the FAQ and rules, you should have anyways. The rules are there for a reason so that there is no crap on the site like the transcodes you speak of.

Oink is awsome, awsome. It would even been better if it wasent so darn hard making an ok ratio there.
IMO OiNK and trancetraffic for albums and DC++ for singles.

I do like using soulseek to find new music, though. It's easy to find people that listen to music you like, then see what other music they listen to.

ive never uploaded a single torrent at oink and i still have a good ratio and power user status. ive never used a seed box at oink either, just my usual isp.

OK, now Soulseek and Emule are better than OiNK ;)

Now the solution to that would be - Don't upload bullshit, the only reason why I liked oink was the bitrate limit..I fail to see why people upload albums with crappy 128kbps or lower.

i always choose emule to download music, for some of the reason that you said, but in trackers like oink you can get music that in emule dont

Yea, if you don't mind 128kbps files, incorrectly tagged/named files, limited selection, extremely slow speeds, and potential disconnects resulting in incomplete downloads.... soulseek and emule are great. For those of us that valued the largest selection of the highest quality files at the fastest speeds...nothing compared to oink.

Gotta use PeerGuardian. You won't be completely safe but it helps.

look at the OiNK.cd story: ppl tryed to keep a good ratio, uploaded lots of torrents... and what happened? OiNK.cd exploded... and all the work was worthless... I'm not even talking about the fact, that for someone it took months or even years to get there... PATHETIC.

I got there within a week of noticeing the site i have been a member a very long time and i have NEVER uploaded music to people because i could not comply with their rules of quality because i did not know how to rip music to their standards which were very strict also it made the site very good for quality so hardly any crap was listed i had a good ratio with a slow internet connection which proves all your saying is crap. i aggree in one way it is pathetic it takes a very long time for many users to join certain sites but it's their site and they do as they please i will not let anybody off the street enter my home or any person just drive my car because they like it do you get the idea now. if you don't like the idea forget all together:icon_thum i loved it i miss it bla bla
.
The same thing happens to anything that does not fit into any countrys law wheather or not you worked hard is illrelevent and does not matter you make a ratio to share and belong to the site simple. if i were a drug dealer i worked so hard so so hard and customs stopped me and take all my goodies do you think they care? they make the money off me haha as well as who do i have the right to complain to.
I also have been trying to get into a certain site but i have no friends there so my luck is out i have tryed tradeing with no joy also you just to to wait untill somebody is kind enough to invite you or trade other options are there but sod them.
Is soul seek a p2p program?

Trolling every oink thread is pretty pathetic as well. Building a ratio wasn't work and didn't require uploading anything, just leaving your torrent client on. As for my OiNK experience, it was far from worthless. I made some good friends and was introduced to hundreds of great albums that I would have never heard of without the oink community.
edit:
Is soul seek a p2p program?
Yes. slsknet.org

soulseek:
Only 1 peer per file, not multi-sourced.
queues sometimes very long
horrible speeds 5kb-10kbs
doesnt have a wide selection more like 50 of the same song
each file has a different duration, bitrate etc
hard to trust
some corrupted file
you cannot post comments like torrents.

Yeah, soulseek is social. If you're not willing to put the effort into chatting with users, you're going to not have much luck with it. If you do put the effort in however, it opens up many doors to rare music you won't find anywhere else.
You also forgot to mention the main caveat of slsk; centralized servers. If slsk ever gains a major user base, it will be easy to take it down.

well if u think oink requires pesence, well do u know how long it takes to become a budist monk? well it takes 2 years and 11 hrs and 11 minutes and 11 seconds of no movement.

Agreed. Why are mods oblivious to the fact? I'm getting really sick of disgruntled people bashing what was probably the best music site on the net, simply because no one would invite them or they got booted off for being stupid. I had no problems uploading or maintaining a ratio. Special thanks to shawners for inviting me way back when.

Because people were acting like they were jesus christ just because they were a member of the site. Yes, I was a member of Oink, but left because it's very hard to keep a good ratio without uploading FLAC files, and I found everything I wanted in Demonoid with equal quality and very good speed.

you anti-oink people are funny as hell. I NEVER uploaded a single torrent to oink, and always had over a 2.0 ratio. Until very recently I only had 35-40kb/s upload, so you all must be doing something wrong, or you can't show a little restraint until you build a slight ratio.
I'm headed over to stmusic for now, they seem to have a decent selection, and the newly added user upload section will allow some more rare releases to become available there.
I dont want to socialize for my music, I just want it available...
