Guide to Video Encoding - Windows
---------------------------------
.avi to DVD
-------------
To encode a .avi file to DVD format I use ConvertXtoDVD. Works for me every time and there are a lot of options regarding encoding, authoring, burning etc.

-How to use
1. Open up the program throught the start menu or the icon on the desktop.

2. Go to File > Add Video File. Navigate through the explorer to find your .avi file/s (Note: You can select 2 files and the app will encode them together, no need for joining)

3. I have chosen to encode 2 Heroes episodes. This is what the screen looks like at this point.

4. If you want to play with more options go to Settings > General.

6. The most important options here would be:
TV Format

Encoding

These are the settings I use, however if you have a DVD-9 disc (dual-layer) then go ahead and choose that option.

Burning
If you want to burn the encoding to a disc then check "Burn result to DVD". To save space, you can delete the encoded files from your Hard Drive. However if you would like to burn more copies in the future, uncheck "Delete folder after successful burn"

7. When you have finished with that, click 'Ok'. At the bottom right of the screen press 'Convert' to start the encoding process, if you wanted to burn the result to a DVD, put the disc in now so you don't have to worry about it later.

DVD to .avi will be coming soon.

I have used convertxtodvd and have enjoyed it with little or no problem but it has been only useful for converting shows. I have downloaded movies with two cds and would like to convert them combining them as one movie. Do you know how to combine them by using convertxdvd or by using another program you might find useful?

WinAVI is great for that,,, if you have Vista you will want to disable aero when using because it will cause problems when it trys to shut off aero automatically
