I received the following (below) when I tried to log into DEMONOID.COM.
Could someone please email these idiots and let them know that, UNLIKE IN THE U.S., The Supreme Court of Canada ruled a couple of years ago (!) that file sharing IS LEGAL IN CANADA. So stupid threats by CRIA (I have dealt with them personally, fer chrissake!) are completely bogus and a laughable bluff.
THANK YOU!!
----------------------

We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and We need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. If you reside in Canada, that is the reason you are being redirected to this message. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.

This is conjecture, but I get the feeling that:

1. CRIA did shut down Demonoid (the initial rumours WERE true)
2. Demonoid negotiated a settlement agreeing to block all Canadian traffic in exchange for allowing the site to remain open.

I don't think it has anything to do with legality or fear of litigation- I think the CRIA had Demonoid by the short hairs and this is the end result.

I think the problematic hardware claims are a sham, as is this fictional 'letter.' Demonoid got pwned.

I noticed the same thing. Sucks, but we lose demonoid.. and gain Isohunt and Torrentspy

This is Bull shit. So they block Canadians from pirating Canadian music. But allow everyone else in the world to pirate it. The CRIA should either try to legally remove Canadian music content from the site or they should piss off.

I liked using Demonoid for downloading indie music, they had a fairly big selection. I found it better than some music trackers like filemp3.

OK, I'll say this once more: The Supreme Court of Canada says FILESHARING IS LEGAL!!
So HOW can Demonoid let themselves be threatened. It's like you telling me "Hey, you can't eat pretzels." And my reply is "Oh ya, says who? Go screw yourself!"
Thanks for nada Demonoid!
And the guy who says well now we have Torrentspy and Isohunt. Well, we never lost Isohunt, but maybe CRIA will bluff them too! That's my concern...that they start sending these bogus threats to other torrent sites and their threats have NOT A BLOODY SHRED OF LEGALITY!!
As far as Torrentspy, well that was a pretty good site but they were basically shut down by threats in the U.S. They just bounce stuff to other sites now...and advertise. That's it.
Used to have a great list of "Latest Torrents" but that's dead cuz those "latest" are being posted to other places...

And WHAT are the "short hairs" and what are you talking about re: hardware claims? ..That it's currently offline?? This isn't the first time...They've periodically gone down. Not as much as some others, but..

Do you use a proxy site? If so which one. The one I use is slow. I think it's called HideEu.net.

they are all pretty well slow, but fortunately the torrent file itself is very small.

You disagree with paying for anything, and because some-one took your rattle, you've gone "waaa!".

If this is news, it's nothing new to Canadians.

Maybe you want Canadian laws all over. /me puts on the hat. Sounds OK, a bit like communism, and also when do we get free/gratuit electric cars?

That's a lovely collie you have their Rack N Rail. "Get down shep!", "Come shep!" etc.

You must be a beautiful person. The sky lights up when you come into the room. etc.

Also, the dog should be asked if it wants it's photo on the web. In addition, is it doing anything on the 24th October?

Here is the story : http://direland.typepad.com/direland/2005/07/iran_executes_2.html

In it the religious leader who runs the judiciary, covers the hanging of two homosexuals by making up a story of rape. So the article goes. They were also children, as defined in most Western societies.

The law is in Iran:

"Homosexuality is illegal, those charged with love-making are given a choice of four deathstyles: being hanged, stoned, halved by a sword, or dropped from the highest perch."

In the West we fought the WWII for gays, and blacks and Jews, even their method of execution is completely crap. This leader of Iran is even worse than Blair/Brown/Bush.
