View Full Version : Is killing for pleasure evil?

Its that time of year again! I see all these people getting up at the butt crack of the morning, suiting up because they love to kill animals and I simply do not understand it. How can anyone find happiness in seeing who can kill the most or the biggest animal(s)?
I would kill an animal, if I had to, for food but I wouldnt get a kick out of it. Inflicting pain on an animal or taking its life for fun seems evil to me. If one does not have to kill but only does the act because it makes one feel good inside then that person has mental problems IMO. All life is sacred and should be treated with respect. Taking a life is not something anyone should do because they think its fun. Of course this is my opinion and perhaps comes from my Native American roots but to me it seems that any rational human being would be able to reach these same conclusions.
Feel free to discusss.

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

I dont like to kill but I think its cool to go out and beat up small animals. Its fun to hear them cry out in pain. I find it strange that people can get in trouble for liking to see dogs fight each other but its alright to shoot other animals with an arrow.
Why do deer run away from men? It could be that they dont want to die! Feelings, emotions, reasoning, life.

I cannot say I wouldn't like to bag a nice trophy at least once or so in my life, I think it is a right of passage in a way. But for the most part, I disagree with killing for mere game. If you are going to use the animal for food, clothing, population control I have no issue with it.

I felt bad for running a rabbit over in Germany one night. I was taking a date home and we heard it examine the entire underside of my Ford Escort. After I left her little town I went back to the place where I hit it. (FYI, it was our first date, or else I would have been hitting her instead.)
It was about 1:00 am or so and I found it on the 2-lane road and stopped the car. I left the car in the middle of the road with the brights on. I went to examine the rabbit and it was pretty much dead, the innards on the outey. Rather than leave it there to become German Asphalt Gumbo, I went to my car and got an oil rag and dragged it by its foot to the shoulder of the road. I figured I would feel better knowing an animal had come to eat it rather than vehicle after vehicle driving by, breaking it down to the width of a pancake. I also wouldn't want to see it should she ever decide she wanted to date again (she didn't).
It was the biggest animal I have ever killed that I know of. Sure, it was an accident, but I still did it.
I read Watership Down every anniversary.

What's your opinions on Spanish bull fights for entertainment. The motive is money from the viewers. Similar for Pit Bull fighting. Would you not change your mind for 10000 for one night?
Also food : chickens live in filthy conditions, so eating for food isn't kind to them. They loose all their feathers, and shooting would be more merciful.
As for "fun" well my guess is they do it for money?

Yes it is evil/sick. Where we draw the line between the two is another question to ask ones self. Is there even a line?

There is no evil or good.
It's all subjective.
That said, killing animals isn't my thing, but I have no problem with people doing it, even only for sport.

So are little girls and boys, borthers and sisters, by the book. But its a fact that most hunters fuck their sister too. Its all good. Hell I bet Noah even fucked a few sheep during those long rainy nights. If god can kill all the animals and people instead of talking things out just to make a point about how awesome he is I guess its cool for people to kill each other and animals for fun or to prove how bad ass they are too.
I guess killing for fun is the cool thing to do these days. I bet I would get arrested for fucking a deer because some people think its cruel but its somehow alright to shoot it with an arrow because its funny. Fuck I need some sleep, its hard for me to form a rational sentence right now. PARTAY ON!

Why can't anyone even make reference to Guns and Ammo magazine without you religious freaks bringing up your shit?

When I lived in the mountains of West Virginia, I had the luck to be permitted to hunt on private land. Had it to myself. Going into the woods, and sitting silently was an amazing thing. The late fall woods are alive with sound. Just sitting quietly, and listening was awesome!! Actually got a deer too. It was a little sad seeing it laying dead on the ground, but the venison lasted all winter. Steaks, roasts, chops, and ground meat. Very tasty!!
I see no evil in that.

I think that differentiating animals that are killable/non-killable is rather arbitrary. I think it is more logical to take a stand for or against killing.
Culture has quite a bit to do with the "drawing of the line" of what is acceptable to kill, and is in no way absolute. In some countries, dogs are killed for food, in India, a cow is considered sacred and is illegal to kill (in general). For most people in the US, killing a dog is unacceptable while killing a cow is bitchin' and this thought elicits revulsion towards the opposite. People that share other cultures view these issues in a different manner, and are no more right or wrong than you or I.
Americans may disagree with these views of killing/consumption, but laws and mores are culturally derived, and there is no absolute for "right" or "wrong."
The line is imaginary... people could make a case that it is acceptable to kill any animal, and even humans are animals.
I think of it as similar to the incorrect social notion that evolution implies "more advanced" or "higher creatures." Animals are animals. You cannot say one animal is "better" than another or, conversely, has lesser value.
Animals have come to be as they are due to having differentiated reproductive success in which they are able to pass on variable genetic traits that will maximize their progeny's likelihood to reproduce in their environment and continue to pass-on their genetic traits. If an animal is well-suited for its environment, genetic differentiation does not increase its survival, so the simplest solution that maximizes survival is adequate (some people may say the "best").
A shark has been as it currently is for millions of years due to its being well-suited for its environment. Would a bigger brain and being able to think about the essence of its being and the futility of existence make it more likely to hunt and kill whatever it finds to eat? If a dog was thrown in the ocean, floundering and bloodied, do you think a shark would think twice about its "value"? Or, for that matter, eating a bleeding, thrashing human if it is hungry? Meat is meat.
Who are we to decide what animals have value and is killable? Differences between animals are artificial constructs created by man to elevate ourselves above animals and to imbue our world with meaning.

I wish I were a vegetarian sometimes.
I tried, after a person that was one, explained in horrific detail what happens to meat in the digestive system after it is consumed (I had never thought about it).
Still, my stomach revolted after about 3 days of no meat.
I absolutely agree with your view regarding the cultural differences between what we (don't know about too many others, but I am an American) view as acceptable to kill for food as opposed to what is the norm for other countries.
I almost hurled when I first heard the word "cat" connected to my dinner at a Chinese restaurant (yes, I now know what kind of cat.).
I even got over... it until the SARS outbreak.
I now choose to stick with a Chinese buffet that features seafood, LMAO!
And I love tamales!

I agree to a point. Humans are animals too, yes, but we are at the tippy top of the food chain and as such we can kill and eat wtf we want to.
Sure sharks will sometimes kill and eat man, as will lions and tigers and bears (oh my!), but damn skippy, man has killed and eaten a hell of a lot more of them than they have of us.
Vegetarians are victims of their own bullshit, we are omnivores, our digestive system is designed to process both fresh meat AND vegetation. Every bean curd eating loony I know is sick a hell of a lot more often than my steak eating ass.
Our bodies need MEAT(Heme) protein to build red blood cells, and therefore muscle. Soybeans are the limp dick of proteins.
Its fine to reach a balance between meat and vegetable proteins, but to cut meat out completely is to malnourish yourself.

As stated previously, when I tried my little experiment, my body agreed!
It would not be denied.
I never thought about vegans being sickly, though. Neither of my friends have health problems.

And I love tamales!
Are frozen tamales any good? I like the Goya plaintains (both the maduros and the tostones), and have perused the ingredients on the tamales, but I'm too suspicious of frozen meat dishes- if I can even call the Goya one's a meat dish- from the label it looks like it's almost all corn.

the best supplements to take with a vegan diet are beef, pork, and chicken.

it all depends on how they taste...i regularly buy live chickens from a friends farm and cull it myself, doesn't get much fresher than that. being a city boy, i've never gone game hunting, and don't care much for it either. but before one says killing animals is gross, think about sirloin steak served with your favorite sauce, veal(cute baby cows) cutlets and lamb(cute baby sheep) chops. arrrgh, this is killing me.
thats it. i'm all sweaty now, f*#k the bloody diet, i'm grabbing something to eat.

I'm kind of surprised people are genuinely discussing this. Anyways here's what I've noted.
Killing is Cool, if....
It's Evil aliens (can't kill ET, thats bad)
People who drive slow in the passing lane.
People who write checks in the express checkout lane
Zombies of course (RE 3 came out this weekend)
Clowns (I hate clowns)
Any manner of animal that makes a moo, oink, bahhh, or balk noise.
and of course politicians, lawyers, and sports referees
