Is there a way to reset your main network ip from your isp.

Depends if they are assigned dynamically or static address.

One is luck of the draw, the other you are given. If it is the "given" type, you would need to request a new one from your ISP directly.

Give us a detailed idea of what components your computer has [O/S] and your internet connection [how you connect, not your IP].

If you don't know if you have a static ip address or not then you more than likely do not.

Do you have a router or is your PC directly connected to your isp's modem? If you have a router you can log into its web management page and see how the IP address is assigned. If you are directly connected to your modem and running windows then go to a command prompt and type ipconfig /all look for the line that says DHCP enabled - yes or no.

I have xp and Verizon DSL the modem is a westell modem/router. I wasnt able to check if the DHCP is enabled because its at my girlfriends house so when i go there ill check that. What dose DHCP mean anyway?

I just unplugged it over night and now i have a new IP. so i guess my IP was assigned dynamically

I have a friend with Verizon DSL and every time he connects, it assigns him a new IP address.
