Hackers Smack Anti-Piracy Firm Again and Again

Hackers are taking credit for at least three breaches at anti-piracy firm MediaDefender. (http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2007/09/mediadefender)The newly revealed attacks threaten to turn what started as an embarrassing e-mail leak into a full-blown security meltdown for the company.

The revelations began Saturday, when more than 6,000 internal company e-mails were exposed in a 700-megabyte BitTorrent download. A note from the hackers that accompanied the download points to a MediaDefender employee's personal Gmail account as the source of the purloined mail, which covered six months of internal correspondence.

"The first internal MediaDefender e-mail surfaced two months ago at a site called ZeroPaid. The message discussed a list of P2P download sites that MediaDefender was proposing (if the message is authentic) to monitor for Fox Studios."

ZeroPaid? That sounds familar.... Does that ring a bell with anyone else?

This news is so freakin sweet. I spent a couple of hours going through these emails yesterday and as I was reading them, I was thinking to myself how many security holes were being opened and that it was only a matter of time before they got hit again.

Btw, for what it's worth, Zeropaid is mentioned in the emails as well (as a link) and Oink seems to be a pretty popular topic.

Has anyone else been reading these? It's some seriously illuminating shit.

Apply Lowpass/Highpass Filters
Add Static
Changing Bitrate
Modulated Bitrate
Re-encoding to a low bitrate then back to a high one
Adding random noise
Lowering or raising the volume over the course of a song
Applying a periodic volume wave
Switching from Stereo to Mono
Switching audio from left channel to right channel
Changing between Left and right channels
Adding Channels
Adding Audience Noise
Adding a laugh track
Adding Reverb/Echoing
Adding Voiceovers / advertisements
Blanking out random words
Censoring/beeping random words

We don’t want people to think the song sucked. We don’t want people to think the file was deliberately altered. We don’t want people to find patters in the decoys to listen for. They opened up www.miivi.com =) Some email accounts passwords was changed, probably servers.. Some were even copied on a hard drive and leaked on the bt sites as a gnutella leak. Slyck.com is getting dos attacked so their site is down. Something to do with media defender. They cant get the FBI to do anything at a fast pace so their super machines are hacking away.

If you want to read the confidential social security numbers. Its in a attachment and the subject is **CONFIDENTIAL**. =) Its posted on all the blogs and now in HTML format on the web.

I just wish the same people who did this to media defender would take on the MPAA and RIAA....I would BET some of their company emails would be very interesting to read!

Yes, after reading about a third of the emails, I get the feeling that mediadefender is a pretty small fry in the anti-piracy equation. I'm sure that the studios have much more aggressive internal anti-p2p staff.
