I would recommend trying other clients to see if it is Azureus that is causing it or if it is your hardware. Try uTorrent, as that client is allowed on all trackers that I know of.

I have this same exact problem.. But I have no idea what the hell causes it. usually I have to unplug the router and modem to fix the problem...

K to figure it out try the following:
1. Make sure your router properly is forwarding ports. (http://portforward.com/)
if it is, then move to step two, if it isnt then set it up properly and test.
2. Turn off your computers fire wall.
If this works, then your computers firewall isnt configured properly, if it doesnt then to step 3.
3. Unplug your router and connect the computer directly to the modem.
If this does work, then your router sucks and you need a new one, if this doesnt, then it could be a mix of the above issues or it could be that your modem might be busted.
Hope this helps...post your results once your done.

I would play around with DHT. I'm aware that it's a huge security hole, but if I have it turned off, my connection drops in about 3 hours.
How old is your router?

DHT is disabled in all private trackers.
but try to have a static IP.. and use utorrrent... and forward port and do all the things tkbrit said and u will be just fine.

I Had the same problem every time i downloaded a torrent with many seeds and peers so heres the solution.....
Azureus go to tools/ options
click on transfer the change max upload slots per torrents to 100
and change max connections per torrent to 100
and connections globally to 100
And you should be fine i was newayz!!!

the router can only handle areound 200-300 connections before it overloads and dies out
