View Full Version : Those annoying red arrows

Hi

I know what these mean (as read on uTorrent's FAQ) but why is it that certain trackers I use have some red arrows and some don't? Just I have a lot of downloads from TheBox dot bz and decided to delete a torrent which had a red arrow and redownload it and it goes red again. :/ It's annoying because I've donated to this site and I'm only on a 1Mb connection and have 1 year to download all the junk before I intend to move out.

But on another tracker, they stay red for some time and then go blue.

Is there any significance if I'm downloading a torrent which has a red arrow? Will it affect my ratio? Just this is happening with Torrentleech for some reason.

I'm using Windows XP and uTorrent 1.7.2. Any feedback will be greatfully appreciated.

Cheers!

I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to this question myself...

A red arrow indicates a torrent that is no longer functioning properly. This can be the result of a variety of reasons. The top two being:

1. Tracker is down
2. The torrent has been deleted from the tracker

If you click on the torrent in utorrent and look under the 'General' tab, there will be a listing for 'Tracker Status.' 9 times out of 10 that will tell you why the arrow is red. If you ever get a message that doesn't make sense to you, post a question here and I'm sure you'll get an answer.

A red arrow is not always a bad thing, btw. If the tracker goes down after you acquired peers, you'll maintain those peers and keep DLing/ULing fine. It's a good idea, though, to not close the torrent until the tracker comes up again so you'll get credit for any seeding you do.

Btw, you might want to switch to utorrent 1.6.1. It works well, and, imo, is less likely to have trojans/embedded DRM/tracking.

I've looked into it more. And it appears all the torrents which have red arrows on Torrentleech are not in my snatch list. I'll just delete the file and redownload these as there aren't many.

The main issue is thebox.bz because I have loads of them. Perhaps I got carried away too much. Not a good idea with only 1MB speed. I view the tracker status and it says, "Failure: access denied, torrent limits reached". This is a first.

I have 130 downloads from thebox.bz of which 10 are blue and the rest are red. No idea if there's a limit and will ask in their own forum. They used to be all blue when I had around 80 odd at least, so thought perhaps my version of uTorrent has done something or another factor. What I can do is, if I have to delete all the red arrowed ones, I can take a screen grab to keep a list, and then just add a few at a time in the hope that they stay blue. I have donated to this site so I'm hoping that redownloading the red arrowed torrents wouldn't be too much of a concern. I always donate to the ones I use most often.

Can't wait when I move out and get a faster connection. :)

Thank you for the help, enter8.

Edit: As I posted this, and posted the situation on their forum, and I received a message from their system. I've been promoted to a power user and said I can have 110 active torrents. So looks like I accidently went over my limit as a standard user. Can only be confirmed later. Looks like I got carried away too much... :/

Edit 2: When I deleted some red arrowed torrents and readded them, they still didn't stay blue in the end. I've got the list of all the red arrowed torrents and will look into it after some downloads from UKNova have finished. I'll download uTorrent 1.6.1 and restart the computer. Do I need tp uninstall 1.7.2? And will this delete the partial torrents?
