I really resent your 20 post shit spree of nothing

This post from Moneoa pretty much sums up a prevalent feeling of mine as of late.

Is it me or are more and more new members posting useless crap in an effort to reach 20 posts so that they'll be able to trade? Sure, justice is usually swiftly dispensed in the form of neg rep, but we're still stuck with 20 worthless posts to wade through.

Is the 20 post minimum policy really benefiting the forum? Is it really doing what it's supposed to, i.e. allowing only worthy/responsible members to trade?

I know that some forums have time limits for access to trading. Has a time limit been considered?

A minimum rep policy is, imo, excellent. Minimum rep promotes quality contributions- it, to an extent, forces people to think before they speak. The 20 post minimum, though, tends to run counter productive to quality- speaking before thinking.

20 post limit, is both a good & bad rule. We want people to post so that we could get to know them first, but there's no way to stop someone before posting useless posts! Like the old saying, there's a rotten egg in a bunch sometimes. We, could only deal with it the best we can!

One thought to ponder would be a minimum of 20 word posts (for the first 20 posts)...in English (even if it's broken)...with at least an attempt to punctuate.

How can you tell from the usual useless crap?

Using rep is only going to transfer the problem it won't solve it. Instead of spamming 20 posts they are going to spam and kiss ass to get rep.

I think it would be better to lower the required post limit to 5 and add a week waiting period. At least that way with a time limit there is no known way to shortcut that and 5 spam posts would be less noticeable and less annoying.

Reputation is just a popularity contest and should not be used as a measure of any kind of value of a person, it also shouldn't be required for people to obtain to access parts of the forum.

It is also unfair to someone who may post a view that is unpopular to a couple people with high rep and because they posted their opinion they would get punished with bad rep and unable to participate in parts of the forum. Even if they did nothing wrong against the forums rules. Shouldn't the forums welcome different viewpoints?

I don't really see that many members with rep being really into invite trading so why have a group of people that as a whole act like a gatekeeper over a forum that the majority probably don't like or support.

In the end it ends up being a self-moderating system and those just don't work.

People will whore for reputation its done at places like slashdot where a kind of reputation system is used there all the time.

i'm a new member of this forum, and have to say some of the posts i've read in this thread are pretty intimidating for us noobs! yeah i agree that there are some people who're spamming to get to the level req to trade, but what about some of us who joined coz we thought this was a great place?
i got to this forum while googleing for a problem, found my answer here and also found the humour(?!) to be my variety, so i signed up. i have'nt made many posts, but the few i have are usually to topics and threads i find interesting (mfgbypooter's itchy balls being a personal favourite!). but horror of horrors, after reading this i've looked at some of my posts and found that some of them could be construed as Spam!!

i guess the point im trying to make is that not all of us noobies are spamming intentionally, some of us just get carried away by our juvenile (for want of a better word) enthusiasm! mind you i'm not giving any excuses, crap should be treated as such, but i am sticking my neck out here to say that this place means more to some of us noobs than invites even if it means neg rep:icon_pale

Members can spot the shite sprees for what they are, as you can look at the index and see them. I call it the "The Run." 20 post in about 25 minutes. Personally, I have not seen this in your posts.

If someone DID think you were spamming, your points would be in the negative, and they aren't...so maybe try to relax and enjoy the site.

The problem people are the ones who sign up the then make 20 posts in a row, sometimes over and over in ONE topic, with crap like " Yeah thats true" - "wow thats cool!" - "I like money" ect ect. Anyone who tries to add a bit of humor or answer a question is more than welcome to join us old nubs at spam. We have welcomed many new people here lately, some fit right in, others have to suffer until we decide theyre alright shits. If anyone can take a hammering for a bit and not have a melt down they will make it at ZP as most of us had to take a beat down before we could get down.

- Make old threads make sense
- Allow new posters to receive "real" feedback on whether or not their posts were worthwhile.
- Create a better sense of community.
