I'm using verizon FIOS and for some reason I only download at 250KB/s MAX. Usually its between 100-150KB/s. I'm using newsleecher. Can anyone tell me what could be the reason for this because I know I can download faster than this since my torrents are way faster. This is making me mad because I've been messing with it for days. I made 8 connections (max amount) and that helped but I still cant get past the 250KB/s and that is if I'm lucky.
edit: I've also tried turning off windows firewall and port forwarding 119.

so many things you must consider.
* are so many seeders?
* is your NAT ok?
* what BT client are you using

Since you are using newsleecher, I am guessing you are downloading from Newsgroups. And since you are using the "free" Verizon news server, the slow speed is probably because "you get what you pay for." I tried using the NTTP server from Charter and from Altel, but I ended up getting a non-expiring block account from somebody, and I don't remember who at present. You can go to Slyck.com and look for a good server. If you are going to download from Newsgroups, you need a high completion, a lot of connections, and a good speed. I was not too concerned with the retention- I think it has 120 days. But for $24.00 for 100 gigs, that is a great price. It breaks down to about 125 movies for $24.00, or about $0.50 per movie- not a bad price for unlimited speed. To download, I bought a copy of NewsRover, which can keep up with the high speed broadband. With bittorrent, I usually get 1.5 to 2.0 M download speeds, and this is even faster.
Footnote: With Charter and Altel, I was limited to 1 connection and 250K, that is how I know what the problem is.
