No revenue at all sounds like a great business model and a sure recipe for bankruptcy. :icon_pira

I've played this game before.. Yes you can find free web space without ads. Your net provider might have some space reserved for you as a personal home page, most of them do. They will give you around 10 megabytes or so, enough for a simple site.
There are all kinds of companies offering free web space, but they are out to make money, so they include ads, or if they don't there are usually restrictions or incentives to upgrade to a paid account.
The restrictions, you might only get a small bit of disk space for your site, a limit on the number of pages your site can have, or only a few file types can be used, like pictures or text pages.
The incentives can be 'nag screens' wanting you to pay them to use more space and have extra features, and to lift the restrictions.
Another way to beat the ads is to find a new web provider that doesn't have lots of members yet. These guys are usually really generous, because they want to build a big user base, then sell out to another company and-or then switch the ads on, usually saying in a tearful disclaimer that they couldn't make a go of their utopian project of providing everyone on the net with a free personal web site.. ;)
Make a site at one of those new guys, and you might have months to a year before they sell out, then move to another new site. Also, keep several copies of your site on other providers too.

I'm looking for something similar with unmetered transfer, unlimited webspace on an OC-192 line. Also, I'm looking for a solid gold chipmunk that craps gummi bears.

What about Googlepages, do they have ads? I haven't used them, but I've been to a few pages by other members, and they seem to be fast and clean.
Google would seem to make more money by profiling you across all of their affiliates and g-mail, and then showing you targeted ads on other pages.

I use them, they are not offering much. But you can be sure they will keep you site safe and won't stick any porn banners in your stuff. Which can not be said about most other sites.

I just paid for a simple account from byethost. Get a .info domain, with upto 300MB webspace, 10GB bandwidth, 7 SQL databases, and it is also a reseller domain, so other people can sign up to your site. This is also a good way to make money through affiliation.
All the above for only a few US$ PER YEAR! Can't complain can you?
View my site at http://grez868.info if you want to see a standard automatic layout, that I have edited for my usage and liking.
EDIT::: Also, www.hostsnake.com is an excellent free hosting provider, with 20GB webspace, 30GB bandwidth and no ads or popups whatsoever. (www.grez868.hostsnake.com for an example)

The trouble I have heard of with so called free hosting is that if you're not paying them to keep your site up then what's stopping them from just whacking your site if they don't like what you're doing or you make them angry, etc etc. You're better off paying a few bucks and really having your own site.

crashtard - as long as you run a legit site you will be ok. There are some providers that will turn safe mode off if you provide them with proof of identity - so they can identify people who take advantage of safe mode being off causing spam, fraud, or anyother illegal sites.
Me myself on mine, dont have access to the safe mode control because byethost and myownfreehost hosts my server, but if I catch anybody hosting pornographic content, their site is deactivated - becaause it is against Byesthost's TOS
