Note:this isn't a rant about Blackcats, Bitsoup, or any other site. It's just about my situation right now.
This may be posted in another thread (and I tried searching for it), but I'm finding it SOOOO impossible to upload on certain sites and certain files. Right now for example, I downloaded the Sims 2 Complete on Blackcats. The big problem is there seems to 2 peers to 43 seeders. Unfortunately I download just fine, but my ratio is standing barely above .100. And it's not that I'm leeching or "hit and running", I've been seeding the file this whole time.
Now considering it's the only file I've downloaded from that site, and now since my ratio is so low they won't let me download a new file with alot more leechers and alot less seeders. That seemed like the obvious solution to bringing my ratio up, but now all I can do is keep Utorrent running 24 hours a day for next few weeks to until it's SOO SLOWLY and gradually uploads to 1.000. I guess that's what I get for downloading a large file without paying more attention to the seeders and peers stats for it. This should be a lesson to people new to private sites like me, it's a painstaking and nervewrecking process to avoid being banned on a site you we're so excited to just join.
BTW,I'd also have a better ratio on Bitsoup if they would ever fully update my ratio. My stats there are way off, and don't reflect the amount uploaded and the ratio for several files.

And here's Bitsoup. Obviously way off. And only 2 peers on the Sims 2 file, though I've allowed up to 25 in the Utorrent settings. And yes I can accept incoming connections, my port is forwarded and I'm getting the Utorrent green checkmark.

Screw it. If I can't find a good solution, I may just stick with Funfile and a few other key private trackers, or I'll just give it up and use the Big public trackers (slow download speeds be damned).
Sorry btw about the double reply to myself. I'm just the same online as I am in real life, slightly crazy and usually talking to myself out of boredom/inpatience.

I find it quite ironic that you are complaining about Blackcats, one of the only private trackers which uses 'Seed points'. If the seeder:leecher ratio is 20:1 or more (or if there are no leechers at all) you get seed points just for seeding the torrent. They recently changed the system a bit but the concept is still the same, making Blackcats one of the easiest sites to maintain a good ratio on.
In general, yes it is hard to compete with people who have good upload bandwidths, but most of the sites give you a couple of weeks before they ban you for leeching which gives you more than enough time to leave the torrent to seed and get the required ratio.

I'm not complaining about BlackCats in general, just about the current situation I'm in. And Yes I know about seed points, but I don't believe they start kicking in until a few days after you finished downloading and by then would they even make that much of a difference if I still can't get any peers/leechers to connect to my file (the only file i've downloaded, though like I said it's a large one)???
I'm just stressed out because I don't want to get banned in several weeks because my ratio won't pull up enough. I guess a few weeks should be plenty of time if I just keep Utorrent running, but I'm very new to this so I don't know and that's I'm worried.
BTW, I tried setting my upload bandwidth in Utorrent to almost as high as it can go. I don't know if I did it right, because it doesn't seem to making any difference yet. I'm not new to downloading, so I should know what I'm doing, and my connection is a pretty good I think. I usually get good speeds.

this is why you need to choose your first downloads carefully. Never base that off of what you want, but base it off of where the least seeders and most leechers are. Once you get a few good downloads, you can get what you want without worrying about 1 download screwing up your ratio for good.
If theres nothing you want thats high in leechers, download just part of something, so at least you can seed that bit to a more popular torrent.

That's exactly what I did at Bitsoup, dowloaded some very popular movie file that I didn't even want just for the purpose of uploading and seeding. And it worked very well, or it should work very well if Bitsoup will ever update my stats and give me the proper ratio (see previous Img files). And I would do the same thing on Blackcats, but I'm not allowed to download until my ratio goes up (catch22). The only thing I guess I can do is keep Utorrent up and running for a long time until I finally get enough seed points. I don't even know how many seed points I'll need.:icon_scra

Heres what you do.
1)Find out if your ISP offers usenet access. Most of them do, but with crappy retention rates (how long a file stays on the server). But that dosen't matter since all we're doing this is to help out our ratio. This link might help http://docs.newzbin.com/index.php/Usenet:ISP_Providers
2)Get a newsreader like grabit (free) or what I use is newzleech (not free...).
3)By now you should have found out if your ISP offers usenet access, so most likely the login information is the same as the one you made for your ISP.
4)Download something hot &
5)Seed (or help seed) a torrent :)
For more help just goto http://www.slyck.com/ng.php. That website helped me a lot with using newsgoups to help beef up my ratio on private sites.

Why do you think a lot of people, including myself have went to newsgroups? No stupid ratios to worry about...that's why.
But I feel your pain, I remember what it was like to seed all day and get very little in return....screw that! I only use BT now for small files...if I want large files, it is newsgroups all the way...as I don't have time to screw around with ratios.

Then what is even the POINT in having a account? So you can mabye get one file off of there a year and seed the rest of the time? Screw that!
If I want files, I go someplace where I get them even faster than private BT sites and do not have to upload the stupid thing back again just to keep some private BT site happy.

What about this ...
All most all the torrent site have same release within 1/2 days different. So u download from any site and then seed at that site where ur ratio is low.
Also u can download from any public tracker and then seed.
At Blackcats thay have seed point. If u keep seeding u will get ur ratio up. Read the faq...

If you can try to do this
find some torrent they have with alot of leechers and try downloading it from another site, and then seed it there. If they allow you to download torrents this should help.

But demonoid is giving me the same problems, not with uploading but with my stats/ratio.

I think the best torrent site is Demonoid. It permits you to upload easily and without a hassle and they don't kick you out for a low ratio. Downloading from Demonoid is reasonably fast and almost everything is available there but the collection of classical music torrents is just fantastic.
I think if you are in Demonoid there is hardly any need to subscribe to any other torrent site.

Looks like you have got your hand in too many cookie bowls - If you spread yourself thin and try to get good ratios in 3 places at the same time you will definitely have difficulties. Work at one at a time go slow - things you want will be there tomorrow. I disagree with downloading stuff you don't want just to up you ratio but sometimes you have to be smart and jump on the bandwagon as soon as a torrent comes out. I just did that with iLife08(mac) and it has given my ratio a good boost in 2 sites. If you are serious about things and are working hard to keep a ratio and it is still not working talk to the mods - they are human and maybe can help.
I have helped a few personal friends out of ratio deficits - keep on working at it.

The problem that most people make is that they download files that are gigabytes in size and complain if they can't seed that much. I remember downloading something from demonoid, managed to seed 2GB in a few days. It's not that hard.

That is why I think torrents are absolutely useless to me for downloading large files several gigabytes in size....becuase you have to upload it all back!
I stick with newsgroups for very large files and for those only a few megabytes in size, I use torrents.

Whats a newsgroup, and what are some websites for them?
