A Few Movie Questions

1. Which groups consistently put out the best quality releases?

2. In my limited time DLing movies, I have yet to see a commentary track. I'm sure they exist, but it doesn't seem to happen that much. Will the future bring more audio options or are commentaries just not that much in demand?

3. What are the advantages of DLing a 4.4gb version of a film as opposed to the 700mb? I know that I can burn the 4.4gb version straight away, but with the 700mb version, I have to encode it (for my player at least). Doing the math in my head, it feels like, from a perspective of time, the 700mb version + encoding = DL time for 4.4 gb. Is there any other advantage to downloading the 4.4 gb version? Is the quality better than if I encoded it myself?

I'm more concerns about what movie to download than the size they came with. However, I just don't care for Cam or TS versions, I only download DVD rips. 700MB versions are compressed files, but some 4.4GB versions may not be compressed. Read the NFO file, it will give more information about that file!

Soooo... if I'm hearing you correctly, if I've got the bandwith and can afford the ratio hit, the uncompressed version should give me the best quality, correct? The 4.4 gb version has just been ripped whereas the 700mb version has been ripped AND compressed. Is that right?

I've seen DVDs that will fit 4.7GB DVD disk without been compressed. So, some but not all 4.4GB files which are most likely DVD files are compressed.

It is only my personal preference, to only download large DVD rips files. I don't waste a lot of time with others! Actually, I also use online DVD rental service from Blockbuster. I can get new movies just came out without much delay, I can't say that with other online DVD rental services! :)

If it's a DVD rip, why not get something cheap like an online dvd rental service (that let's you take the movies back to the store). Then rip it yourself instead of spending the time to download what someone else ripped in. That's what people I know do. lol

Thanks everyone for all the information. At this point, the compression question is somewhat moot as I figured out that I can play compressed AVIs on my DVD player.

I'm still really curious about the commentary tracks, though, as well as respected groups within the scene.
