This may sound ridiculous but are digital cameras safe on fast rides like rollercoasters? You see I want to take my cam with me to a fare but I wouldnt have anyone to hold onto it, so I would have to take it on the ride with me.

as long as you hold on to it

I'd say it really depends on the camera. If it's an ultracompact, it could easily fit in a small case that can be attached to your belt.

A digital SLR, on the other hand, would be harder to hold on to. It also could easily fall off your neck if you went on a coaster than went upsidedown. I would say just make sure you find a secure way of holding on to it, and obviously, try not to take pictures while on the coaster as that could be a safety risk.

I didn't really mean holding onto it being the problem. I mean would the jerking movements do any damage to the internals of the camera itself? I know, it's a silly question but I have to ask it.

Well, I took my small Kodak C653 on most of the coasters at Geauga Lake and Cedar Point one weekend, and there was no problem with it, even after rough rides like the Villain and Big Dipper.

It's a point and shoot cam, and I kept it in a small hard case in my pocket.
