View Full Version : Does anyone still use WinMX?

A while back I did most of my sharing using WinMX. Eventually I stopped using it, mostly because I got onto a pretty good DC++ hub where I can find almost everything I want. Almost.

Now I'm thinking of getting another sharing app running again so I can find the occasional file I'd like to get ahold of that isn't available from my main hub. My first inclination is to stick with WinMX since it is what I used before and what I'm familiar with. So my question is, is WinMX still a viable app for file sharing?

(P.S. I do know about the main servers for WinMX getting shut down in 2005, but I don't mind a few minor mods to hook up with an alternative, plus I used NapMX to locate other OpenNap servers.)

I would say, yes, although it seems less popular all around. It's fine for me.

I just started using it again after a long time away from it. What I really liked about it is the way I can find music so easily and sort according to bit rate, etc. I just haven't found a file sharing client that is so well centered around music...for me at least. If there are better ones out there...please let me know. :)

It took awhile to get it working for me though. But after going here: ~~~http://www.mxpie.com/instructions.html~~~ all is better now. :)

I was amazed to find a very healthy network still going strong. Everything is p2p now instead of open nap...I guess. I get a lot more music results from my searches than anywhere else I've tried so far...it's a great mp3 resource. :)

What about soulseek /limewire
what about dc++?

I have limewire pro but the number of mp3's per search vs. WinMX is not even close... for me anyhow. Alternatively, WinMX just seems loaded with them. But thanks for the tip about dc++, I've not tried and will give it a try to see how it does. :)

The only problem that I have so far with WinMX and it was just the same years ago...are the few immature individuals who will chat to just cuss you out for no reason. Sigh... but they're a relatively small minority all things considered and in the long run it is still worth it.

I have used Soulseek and I like it but it was on my old computer and I not had the time to download the program again.
