My vote is for VLC Media player. Only use codecs if VLC can't handle it.

k-lite megapack was the best but ACE Mega CoDecS Pack is now my favirote it can play any format and it includes built in realplayer and quicktime player, and the installer is easiar than k-lite.
here is a good websites to find any codec pack:

I'm with ourthing2, you should use VLC or MPC and avoid codec packs altogether :P

k-lite codec pack is very convenient but if you use VLC, you don't have to worry about downloading codecs. check it out!

Don't use any codec packs. Instead install each codec separately. Usually you'll manage by installing ffdshow filters, divx, xvid, ogg.
For making screen capture videos you need TechSmith Screen capture codec. If for some reason you need to save a lossless video, use for example Alparysoft Lossless Video Codec.

...and if you still happen to encounter a video that the player doesn't play properly (the image is black or there's no audio), then use gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) to see which codecs it uses and install just those.

rein in your shit spree or me rep bombs. in case you don't know it, neg rep makes it that much more difficult for you to make it into the torrent trading section...

I use BS player that plays anything you throw at it. And power DVD. Use daemon tools to mount the image and power dvd to view it. Usually the dvd-r images can be viewed with power dvd when they are in the rar archive format. I download the tenth or more wnirar file.. And change the extension to .VOB and play it through power dvd to see the qualtiy. Very good in R5's or screeners =)

First of all remove all the installed players/codecs. Now download an install ZoomPlayer it will automatically download and install all the needed codes. Now download "Media Player classic" and use it as a player. After this you will never ever need any codec or player.
Note:
1) VLC is also very good but the image quality is sometime very bad and looked patched
2) You can use ZoomPlayer itself to play movies, but I find MPC a better option.
