Bubba Ho-tep (2002)
Based on a short story by Joe.R.Lansdale , which is pretty much a guarentee the storyline will be bonkers . It is .
Elvis & JFK aren't dead (they mostly just feel that way) , both are mouldering away in a retirement home , ignored & ridiculed . Evil is afoot , in the form of a mis-placed soul-sucking ancient Egyptian demon . The decrepid duo must fight to save the eternal lives of the home's crinklies . Bruce Campbell's surprisingly understated Elvis is a joy . Actually , the whole film is a joy .
Much mirth .... (8/10) :icon_thum

Persepolis - Really good film.

I read the 1st of the Persepolis comics , but sadly couldn't bring myself to read the rest . I just got so fecking wound up by it . Beautifully written & drawn , the girl's attempts to live her life on her terms, whilst constantly being hindered by authority (religion), was heart wrenching . In fact , just thinking about it again , is making my blood simmer .
Maybe i better not watch the film .

I watched "Venus" last night. I thought it was a another great British film. Great acting and story. Peter O'Toole falls in love with 20 year old. He is one of the best British actors ever.

Yep, that was very strange. Only that one monster seemed to have more intelligence, the rest where just brainless acting on instinct.

IMDb User Rating: 5.7/10 (8,480 votes)

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvVwRKHIkeA

Plot Outline: Warring alien and predator races descend on a small town, where unsuspecting residents must band together for any chance of survival.

User Comments (236 out of 367 people found the following comment useful);
9 stars out of 10 seems pretty ridiculous for a movie that has the most threadbare of plots and the most two-dimensional of characters. Make no mistake: AvP:R is a terrible, terrible film.
But it is an AWESOME movie. Anyone who goes to this expecting anything other than absolute, mindless, relentless carnage deserves what they get. Those of you who really just wanted to see a movie with aliens and predators wrecking crap and each other will have a blast.

Did I mention it? A girl gave it to me to watch about a month ago and I kept falling asleep during. I also read a whole lot about serial killers as some can attest to here. Ive read almost the entire crime library on the subject and I do consider myself quite knowledgeable about serial killers. But this is just a movie. I dont get why it ends with him praying. I had a feeling that maybe his daughter wasnt a kiiler at all but rather Mr Brooks just imagines these scenarios to justify his own killings or....... he is thinking of killing his daughter and is trying to justify that in his own mind. Perhaps I should watch it again. Like I said, I didnt watch the whole thing at once. I watch a bit at a time. Thats NOT the best way to go about watching this movie.

Lady Snowblood - (1973) - (Niponese audio - Engrish subs)
Female Samurai-esque revenge film . Loads of flashing blades, severed limbs & gushing blood, all dished out by a merciless, ice cool goddess .
(8.5/10)

( it's probable Tarantino saw this film pre-Kill Bill )

Thata a god one, love it.....and yes, QT admits using this film for inspiration.

Across the Universe (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0445922/trivia)
My husband hates musicals, and if he had known this was one, he would not have rented it.

The movie starts with the lead character singing... a Beatles song (I thought "Damn. He is doing the song justice." Little did I know). Then another. Husband starts grumbling, while I am enthralled.

Here is a
synopsis of Across the Universe: Beatles movie... (http://media.www.waltonian.com/media/storage/paper752/news/2008/02/27/ArtEntertainment/Across.The.Universe.Beatles.Movie-3239269.shtml)

Only if you loved the Beatles will you love this movie. Evan Rachel Wood has a voice you would not imagine. All of the songs are performed by the cast.

My husband said it was the first musical he had ever seen that he actually liked.

Across the Universe "...blends 29 songs into a plot." (http://media.www.waltonian.com/media/storage/paper752/news/2008/02/27/ArtEntertainment/Across.The.Universe.Beatles.Movie-3239269.shtml)

I'm going to watch a classic tonight. Even though I was quite young, I loved Vanishing Point when it first came out. It's one of those movies I don't mind watching again and again. A true cult classic.

If you've never seen this flic and you like cars and car chase movies, I highly recommend seeing it. Another great, more recent car chase movie, Ronan.

Can't for the life of me get inspired to watch any current movies, but i'm being mightily entertained in my retro groove, so no loss .

My Name Is Trinity (1970) and Trinity Is Still My Name (1971)
Comedy / Spaghetti Western double header . The adventures of two rude, filthy, bungling bad-guy brothers, made i laugh . :icon_thum

I saw The Diving Bell and the Butterfly yesterday, and Juno today. Both were pretty good.

The former I wouldn't recommend to most, but it was a well-done film and beautifully shot film with a fascinating story. The second film was a feel-good indie flick.

I wrote more in-depth reviews on my tumblelog... (http://underpressure.tumblr.com/)

I am trying to write mini-reviews so that I can actually remember what I have seen and how many films I actually see in a theater in a year (so far, 4 movies in 22 days).

Yeah, but it was very entertaining. I liked it and I generally do not like these Stephen King movies. The Mist kicked ass!

Continuing my immersion in anti-war movies and documentaries, I saw Battle for Haditha (2007)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0870211/

I have to say that I thought it was slanted and anti-American. It is based on a true Iraq war incident where 20+ civilians were killed. It was also featured on PBS Frontline. It is a recreation that plays fast and loose with the known facts of the incident in an Oliver Stone fashion.
