He/She means you edit the Hosts file with Notepad to include IP addresses for TorrentBytes.net, so that you don't need to use DNS (Domain Name Server) to get the IP addresses!

Your site is down all week, but you don't know anything? I find that very hard to believe. There's more than one person on the planet who can login and see w.t.f. is wrong with the servers/site. I'm pretty sure their admins/mods have their own private channel (irc, email, im, phone) for staying in touch. To have zero information after a week? They aren't remotely that incompetent.
In a strange coincidence, thepeergroup.net disappeared at the same time. Their dns records have gone missing. (hosted by GoDaddy, so who knows what's been screwed up there.)
[Edit: btw, for those who don't want to fire up an IRC client, netsplit.de (http://irc.netsplit.de/channels/details.php?room=%23torrentbytes-support&net=P2P-NET) monitors their support channel.]

Well last time they had sign ups, I signed up, but I don't think they hold a candle to sites like torrentleech.
I hate the way they put you at a disadvantage when you sign up, because they only allow you to download torrents that are 24 hours old torrents! Then you have trouble getting your ratio up because they put you at that disadvantage! And on sites like that, nobody seems to want to download anything off of you when the file is 24 hours old!
I switched to newsgroups. No stupid ratios to worry about....but I still use torrentleech occasionally.
But I finally just asked torrentbytes to close my account and haven't been back since, because I simply disagree with the way they hobble you on new torrents when you are starting out! To me that is stupid!

Strange so many of us managed to join Torrentbytes and keep our ratio up.
It will be a shame if the site is gone, because I've never seen a faster tracker (consistently) than Torrentbytes ... probably because they didn't tolerate leechers who don't have the decency to keep their ratio up.
If you're a leecher, than yeah stay off BT and pay for premium newsserver.

I DID keep a ratio up at both torrentbytes AND torrentleech!
But it was not so hard starting out on torrentleech...Because I was given THE SAME OPPORTUNITY EVERYONE ELSE HAD STARTING OUT!
Torrentbytes makes it just that much harder on a new person to start out! They only let you up stuff over 24 hours old and THEN nobody wants them....because everyone already has them. So it takes you a very long time to get started there.
I did not say you could not get up your ratio, fanboy! I said it was much harder than other sites...and as far as I am concerned I will use newwsgroups rather than go through that dumb hassle.
But you are fool if you think I ever tried to cheat or leech!
I just said it was unfair to start out there and it is. Sorry if you can't handle the truth but that is the way it is. Get your head out of the sand and you might see that.

Honestly, all the stuff that I downloaded only starts out uploading after the 24 hours. Especially after a week (or with dvds after 2 weeks even) it really starts to upload. I usually only upload stuff once a month for 2-4 days to make up for all the downloading. It's not that hard :) (just dont try it with the latest lost episode or something like that ;))
p.s. it sucks though that torrentbytes is down... they might not even come back when you look at the news (Leaseweb is forced by BREIN to hand over the personal details of people behind Ladytorrent. Torrentbytes is also hosted within the leaseweb network). But we'll see.

Negative. They are hosted by NForce. Maybe within a leaseweb facility, but not necessarily. And since they have to start with a fresh install, it'd be trivial to move somewhere else. Maybe TPB will start a hosting service. :icon_pira

Well mabye you might not have had the uploading problems I did, but I eventually gave that site up altogether, because it was hampering my upload ratio.
So now I use torrentleech instead for the occasional torrent, but I am mostly using newsgroups, with no uploading back now.

This discussion is quit funny. I signed up with Torrentleach and had a 48hour wait to download anything until I had downloaded 8 gig with a ratio 1.078. Was hard to upload old torrents that everyone else already had. Torrentbytes was only 24 hours and has a much faster download speed than Torrenleach! Hopefully Torrenbytes is back up and running soon.

Torrenleech does not have a waiting period as far as I know. At least they didn't when I signed up. So I don't see how you can do soo good on torrentbytes and not on torrentleech.

TL does have a 48 hour wait now for new members. Noobs need to upload 7 gigs (was 8 gigs just a few days ago I think) to totally eliminate the wait period, which can be kind of tough to do quickly unless they know what they're doing.

I hate to say this, but even if they do happen to resolve their tech issues (which I'm sure they will), doesn't the fact that, due to the lost membership info, they're letting everybody and anybody in change the nature of the tracker? Exclusivity isn't the most important feature of a tracker, but it certainly counts. It goes a long way, imo, in weeding out undesirable/anti-p2p elements.

LOL! Did I say that? I think not, TB put the site down coz of the U/D ratio issue. The first time they try to resolve the issue, it didn’t work. Many account holders are still experiencing the issue.
And for they sake of argument, they are having a bandwidth issue as well coz of the massive influx of people trying to signup.
