removing a back up operating system

Recently during my start up options when i am about to boot into windows xp it now lists that i have 2 operating systems , the one on top says just windows xp professional
the one beneath that says windows xp proffesional (Tune up back up)
i am not exactly sure how this came about, but does any know of a simple way to get rid of the unwanted back up to my original windows xp ?

The most common example of that happening that I've noticed is when a person used their windows cd, or a better verison, to upgrade their windows but failed in some aspect to complete the procedure. It typically deletes itself upon completing.

I couldn't tell you how to correct the issue. Sorry.

right click my computer and select properties

select the advanced tab

and press the setting button in the startup and recovery section at the bottom

inside this u will find a little check box and an input box for how long u would like ure choice of OS to be displayed

simply uncheck the box

job sorted

also while this window is open u can tell ure comp not to auto restart when it crashes( so u can see what the error message is)

this should help

there is also a few other indepth ways to get rid of this issue if this simple way wont work (but chances are it will)

in case you dont just want to remove the time limit, all the options are stored in c:\boot.ini Simply edit this file to view all the options on the boot list, and remove the one(s) you dont need.
CAUTION: make a backup before editing any OS files, and do not do anything your not comfortable or familliar with!

All sorted folks, i done it the easy way first that got the job done no probs at all , i then had a go drtokers method and after abit of reading through the help section of my pc i really think all is ok , there only is one windows in the start up option now and my pc doesnt seem to have suffered any faults , anyways thanks to all who replied to my post "top men " all of you. cheers.
