Video Editing software question...

Maybe someone can help me with this one... I was talking to a guy the other day about Final Cut Pro and he was telling me a new software was released for PC that was alot like final cut call... or what I thought he said... "Edisol"... but I can't find it mentioned anywhere... so, obviously I have the wrong name, does anyone have the faintest idea what I'm talking about?

What's wrong with Premiere Pro?

Probably the best Video Editing software for windows IMO.

Hardly anyone uses avid these days.

Well, I don't know that anything is wrong with Premiere Pro, I've never used it... I've never used any of them. I was planning on getting into it for a few minor projects and one guy I was speaking to was talking real highly of the new (or I assume new) software. I just seem to have let the name melt away. I just remember him saying it took everything that was good in Final Cut and added to it and that it was very intuitive. It just sounded like a good software to start with.

But, you think Premiere would be good, I guess? Is it real easy to pick up on?

Premiere Pro is pretty much the only half-decent video editing software available for the PC. (Still not quite as good as Final Cut Pro, but I wouldn't worry about that for the minute).

PP is very easy to pick up, and there are tons of resources on the internet to help you. Also check out the PP Total Training DVD series and / or anything from www.lynda.com (Both available at all good p2ptailers™)

Also it might be worth learning Photoshop too if you were planning on adding any custom titles / credits to the mix. (Easily done with a blue background and / or an alpha channel)

hey don't forget PP has 100s of 3rd party plugin filters and Special FX to make a superb video.

You didn't come off condescending... I just wanted to make sure I let you know that I don't know what I'm talking about. :)

Anyways, I appreciate the link to Lynda.com... thanks to that I found all sorts of tutorials I've been looking for, now I just need to free up enough bandwidth to get some of them. Let me ask you this, though... given the option, do you think I'm better learning Premiere Pro or Final Cut? I have a mac and a PC so platforms not a factor, I just don't think I'm going to be doing anything too Hollywood, so the one that's easier to learn is probably going to be the winner. :)

Anyone know how to connect a laptop to a TV? I know an S-video cable would do it, but my laptop sucks and doesnt have a port. Is there anyway I can get one installed?

Let me ask you this, though... given the option, do you think I'm better learning Premiere Pro or Final Cut? Well in that case I'd say just dive in and learn Final Cut Pro if you have the facilities. The two programs are very similar in operation anyways, but FCP has always had the edge for me.

That depends on what video formats you want to cut. Here I suggest:
1. convert source video to raw MPEG format
2. there are so many free MPEG cutter, find one
3. encode cut MPEG to original video format

There are USB video cards that will do s-video or composite out.
