I'm fairly new to Usenet and I was wondering how long it should take to download the headers from a big group (such as alt.binaries.sounds.lossless). In the past its taken me about 3 hours to download the headers, but that seems like too long so that is why I am asking. Thanks.

well that really depends on your and your usenet provider speeds as well as number of headers you're downloading. generally speaking 3 hours is way too much for one group on paid service. anyway, next time you won't be downloading all the headers, but only new ones, so that time should be considerably shorter.

Yea it depends on the providers speed as well as your connection speed and which group the more articles in the group the longer it will take

If you try to download all the headers from alt.binaries.boneless (one of the BIGGEST binary groups on usenet) it can take awhile!
Even if you have a decent connection and newsgroup provider.... because of it's size.
