I just came across this very well structured site for free music thought I would share it. Also since not everyone is familiar with the free online music scene I will include some of those bellow as well. These sites generally host less known artist and is great for finding out about bands that you would have never heard of otherwise.

Site I just found:
www.muzic.com (http://www.muzic.com)

2 others popular sites
http://music.download.com/
www.Garageband.com (http://www.Garageband.com)

This is by far not a full list and there are actually allot of other sites that offer free music downloads from a huge list of artist. Feel free to add your own favorites to this list.

I thought it may be somewhat relevant to post this too

http://www.pandora.com

You create a free account, then create individual stations based on an artist or song. The program then find music similar to what you like and let's you listen to the songs like a radio. For me, I then take those songs and find them on torrent sites.

Great site Pandora is

Ya I currently use Pandora quite often, other good alternatives to that style of online radio are yahoo's Launchcast and Last.fm

http://music.yahoo.com/
http://www.last.fm/

I dig pandora.

LastFM was out in left field with its associated selections, and the base of what is available is smaller than pandora.

Aaaaaaaaaand... if you do some looking, you can actually rip the music from pandora.

:p

Great heads up, I just got it working. Its definitely not for beginners but I think thats a good thing, if it were too easy then they would shut down the hole again. If your determined just look up "pandora jar" on Google their's allot of resources.

For those wondering it rips at 128kbps bitrate.

Edit: Not to confuse those reading in the future I had wrote 128kbs

Thanks for pointing out my Freudian slip E.C.

Pandora is definitely awesome. With its suggestions, i have downloaded...must be 30gb of music from torrent sites.

Some genres/artists don't get you the results you'd like, but then again, some artists like Jack Johnson give some great new artists.

I feel so stupid... I can not for the life of me understand how to use last.fm... It's very annoying... maybe someone can explain it for me... Oh and there was this pandora competitor thing that was mentioned on g4 one day... But I can't remember what it was called...

no need to download the last.fm client or winamp plugin
just go here and put in an artist you like and sit back and enjoy

or play our favored artists

Well it seems like music is really starting to take an albet be it slow stride toward becomming free. Alt least free to listen to on a computer. Here are two web site for free streamming music on demand. http://free.napster.com. On the web site, if you read the FAQ, it states that you only get three free plays per song but I believe that this has been secretly lifted unless they are putting the limit back in place but I was able to listen to a song more than three times. In fact, I played the song about five times and it played in full lungth. Now the second site is http://www.soundpedia.com You don't have to register but if you want to listen to full albums then you have to register but registration is free and you get unlimited access. I don't know if http://www.soundpedia.com is a legal music site so you listen at your own risk.

Here is another site for free music. This is a stramming radio service that streams music at high quality. You do not have to register to listen to music but registration will give you the ability to create your own radio stations known as crates on bluebeat as well as give you het option of hearing your music streamed at 320kbps. Non registered users hear music at 160kbps. It is my personal favorite site when it comes to online radio streamming. The web site is http://www.bluebeat.com
