EasyRecovery Pro actually works pretty well. Media Tools Professional (very hard to find) is really good - nearly forensic quality.

TestDisk is probably among the best, I'd try it first. (This should be your best shot, it's also freeware which is great).

I've heard positive things about "Recuva", but I haven't used it myself.

Aside from that, Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional is pretty well known and a good product.

And if you want to try the same stuff Law Enforcement uses, EnCase Forensic is where it's at.

You could make regular full hard drive backups. Use Acronis home image, it doesnt take any chances!

Have you tried Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software (http://www.stellarinfo.com). It is a file and partition recovery utility which recovers lost data due to software malfunction, file/directory deletion or even sabotage.
Download the demo version from: http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm
It will help you to determine whether to go with the software or not. If the demo shows the recovered data then get the full version to save it.
Hope it does work for you.

I have used Recover My Files , and I must say its mighty impressive.
I use 3 together. If one of them miss anything , the other surely finds it
Stellar Phoenix , Recover My files and Ontrack Easy Recovery.

EasyRecovery Pro recovered some a file that Active Undelete couldn't find.

Well since this thread has been spammed off coarse I will take the time to further drift away and suggest a great app for recovering DVD's and CD's that have become unreadable. Have you ever received "redundancy Error" messages? Get CDcheck (http://www.kvipu.com/CDCheck/)
It can save yo ass! It will keep reading the CD or DVD until it can piece enough of it together.

I don't know which software you use to recover deleted files from your hard drive.
this is my opinion, i am self use a data recovery tool named "Recover Data for Windows Data Recovery Software (http://www.recoverdatasoftware.com/recover-windows-files)" to get my accidentally formatted partition data back, all of my work was on it, this recovery software recover all my data within 1 hour's. I am very tankful for this software.
I suggest you to try this software for your deleted file condition. This Company provide Free DEMO software for test only. Demo software show you all the recovered data including Deleted Files/Un-deleted files/Formatted Files/Formatted hard drive devisions etc.. But the Demo software doesn't SAVE your required data. Recover Data Software Company charges 69USD dollar for FULL Version software. Full version software having all features to SAVE the data.
I hope this data recovery software (http://www.recoverdatasoftware.com/) is better for your condition...
Gud luck
