If you check out to the left under your name you'll see:

Reputation Power: 1

The people that tried to give you rep points were at 0. So you get nothing for their nods other than the satisfaction that someone tried to give you points.

Ya, i really all depends on who is giving you rep points. Like if i were to give you rep points, you would get 3o or so points. People that have been here longer have a higer rep level.

Just make good posts and you will see your rep go up.

There is probably somewhere that tells you this, but what is the difference between Rep. Power and Rep. Points?

Rep. Power - Amount of rep points you can give someone

Rep. Points - Your overall points. Points are gained through length of registration and by members giving you points.

how about 2 weeks membership or 30 rep points. either they wait for 2 weeks or make good posts if members want to get in earlier. can a system like that be implemented ? it'll encourage them to make good posts.

I dunno...maybe I'm confused. The title of the topic is Reputation Points. Jorge said that people that have been here longer have a higer rep level.

I registered in 2003 and my points are only 43, so it's not necessarily true that people that have been here longer have a higher rep level (at least as far as the reputation points, as in the subject of the topic)....There are other factors to consider than simply length of time you have been here.

But don't take my post the wrong way - I'm not here for points. I'm here 'cause I like the site and enjoy reading the posts.

Yeah, I've been wondering about what kind of formula is used to come up with Rep. Power also?

I can understand that Rep. Points are given to you by others, but where does Rep. Power comes from?

The problem with offering up merit OR patience is that people will sign up, not post, and waltz in after 2 weeks without posting anything at all nor contributing to the community. I think this way is good. It encourages you to become a member of the community by staying, contributing, and contributing something meaningful. That way people will be more likely to trade with you in the first place.
