a couple days ago, i downloaded a movie (coughwindcoughtalkerscough) with the audio encoded in ac3. this pissed me off at first, as i didnt have a player that decoded ac3, and i couldnt find a working codec for the life of me. but then i got sick of looking for codecs, and decided i would get a player that worked right away. lo and behold, the BSplayer! availible at www.doom9.org under downloads and media players. under the settings i switched it to 3-D sound and put on a pair of $20 headphones. i was truely amazed! it was better than going to see it at the theater! the audio cant be too large tho, as its a 2 1/2 hr movie and its high quality in 2 700mb files...

maybe i am easily impressed, but this is damn cool in my opinion. i think that this could easily be the near future of audio, and movies alike.

Yes, you are. And very obtuse.

AC3 audio is Dolby Digital, genius. Been around for YEARS to encode major motion picture soundtracks into 5.1 channels. We've just been able to master doing it on our PCs. AC3 of course, is CD quality to the human ear and is far from compressed the likes of what we can do with OGG.

so? whats your point? your just proving mine. it is better than mp3, or ogg, as they have only 2 channels.

I'm glad you like BsPlayer & AC3. I love it that little thing as well, try subtitles while you're at it... your BsPlayer plays them all! And the most genius feature of all... custom pan-scan... you gotta love it when you've got a 16:9 movie and a 4:3 television (like I have upstairs)

Actually, Ogg has multichannel support, its use just isnt too popular in making divx movies just yet. However, when an easy way to convert AC3 to Ogg 5.1 is made popular, im sure you'll see it everywhere.

Oh yeah, and if everybody knows about AC3, why are you hyping it? The reason we downmix to mp3 is to save space for better video quality.
