Hi guys. I'm wondering if I can be tracked down for using bittorrent if I'm using a free internet provider to access the internet? also I'd like to know if the ip address is determined only by the internet provider? (e.g I can use up to 3 different networks to connect to internet. will I have a different ip for each one?)
Should I use only the free internet provider for downloading through bit torrent?
Thanks

Yup IP is only determined bu ISP. Just be cautious of what files you download.

Who are you afraid they can track you? RIAA etc.. the other crap. As the bittorrent protocol is an file-sharing open to public protocol, it's not that difficult to track somebody's ip address who are transferring some specific stuff. The matter is what stuff are being transferred from the user (you know, copyrighted etc..). Yes is fairly to find computers-ips that transfer data they are not authorised to do so. Of course you can use encryption in the bittorrent client but that's another matter. The fact is that they can track down your ip address and only your ip address. The ISP (internet service provider) and only ISP knows which specific ip address are given to which telephone number/line. You see, when connecting to internet your ISP gives an ip to the line which is used to connect the internet. To explain it, outer world (the whole internet I mean, websites, ftp servers, bittorrent trackers etc..) are able to communicate directly only with your ISP. Your ISP is who establishes your communication with outer world. You can see it as a middleman. I hope I haven't confused you much..
Now if someone wants to know which telephone line/number was using a specific ip address they got to have a warrant which tells that they can ask the ISP to give them the information they asking.. (I think that's the way the system works officialy at least)

Well, does the free ISP require any personal information from you? If not, then they have nothing to go on.
