I've been having problems in the past with azureus (1.5) moving my completed torrents out of the expected download directory. Initially I would have a folder with 2 avi files and subtitle file and txt file but upon completing the torrent Azureus would take the two avi files, text file and subtitle file and dumb them outside of the initial containing folder.
I thought i had all that licked today when I had to switch back to azureus to seed something that just wasn't getting seeded right in utorrent do to the lack of being able to ban bad users to seed to the good ones.
So what I did is go to settings under Files (in Azureus, duh) and make sure that
1) No default directory was selected. (I want files to stay where I put them)
2) and that nothing was checked under completion moving.
okay just got a brain storm. I'm gonna try something while composing this post on the fly and see what happens....
Teh experient.....
I just opened another torrent with the above criteria in one and two the same....now
when I open up a new torrent in Azureus in pops up with the default location being my drive c: as in C:\new folder
Let's change that to where the files actually reside on my pc which is G:\new folder.
1)Done by changing destination to 'G:\' not 'G:\new folder' just 'G:\'
2) accidentally hit 'force start' instead of 'force re-check' but its rechecking it anyway.
3) waiting to see if the files inside the containing folder 'new folder' get moved out of the folder to my root drive, 'G:\'
They did
so what am I doing wrong..let's try this again.
This time:
1)I changed destination from 'C:\new folder' to 'G:\new folder'
2) hit 'force re-check'
3) hit 'force start'
I'm guessing the files are going to be inside of the expected directory 'G:\new folder' rather than having 'new folder' empty on my G:\ drive with file.avi file.srt and file.txt outside of the original containing folder called 'new folder' on my G:\ drive.
Forced start and low and behold files are in their proper place.
This is only an issue when you seed new content or are re-seeding old content..you don't want the files to get took out of the original containing folder as this messes things up.
Now I know..however there is one more option I want explanation for:
what is the 'Location to save data:' option all about on the initial pop-up that opens when you load a new torrent into azureus...this differs from the named save location inside the white area that I was able to edit earlier to 'G:\new folder' and 'G:\'
This looks like its again giving you the option to move the file someplace but I don't understand why or what its for.
It's right above the 'Files in torrents:' description on the initial pop-up dialog box that loads when you add a new torrent into azureus.
why and what is this for?
oh joy should I test this aka 'answer your own question'
shit lets see....
I chose 'C:\' for this...shit don't let me forget to do the steps in proper order...so here they are:
1)Change 'save location' from 'C:\new folder' to 'G:\new folder'
2) Change 'location to save data' to 'C:\' without specifying 'new folder'
3) Force re-check
4) Force start
wait to see if 'G:\new folder' gets moved to 'C:\new folder' and whether or not the files inside of 'new folder' stay inside of 'new folder' or if 'new folder' is empty on my drive 'C:\' after being moved because I selected 'location to save data' as 'C:\' not specifying 'C:\new folder' along with file.avi, file.srt and file.txt being located outside of the empty containing folder called 'new folder' on drive C:\
I'm speculating that if all goes well. After forcing re-check and 'force start' all files should be moved to my 'C:\' drive with original directory structure so long as 'change save location' was selected/done properly in step1.
Let's find out:
For whatever reason..the files seemed to stay where they were identical to the results in
the second experient so what in the fuck was that all about with 'change location to save data'? Does anyone know? can anyone find this without me having to do a screenshot?
At any rate on new and future torrents that I do I will make sure to follow the steps in the second experiement..ignoring the unknown in the third.
I don't think this has been discussed any place else..if it has I challenge you to show me.
